Hello Fellow Bay Area Students!
Did anyone apply for Chabot, Merritt, or Ohlone's Fall 2017 term? We should be hearing back from Chabot in about 10 days!
Have you sent in your intent to enroll form to ohlone? I scanned and emailed mine over the wknd and hoping they will give more info in return. On your acceptance email was the subject line "FALL 2016" acceptance? I did email Zelma questioning about the subject line. I am really hoping it's a typo lol
From my understanding all immunization should be done by August, at least get them going since hep b needs to be done in series.
I also applied to Chabot and I was wait listed at #40 something. I didn't even get on the wait list for CSU East bay lol I am shocked to be accepted at Ohlone and college of San mateo since my grades are just average. I am 100% sure your grades/GPA/tea score are much higher than mine to be accepted at Chabot. My overall GPA is only 2.9 with core/science GPA of 3.4 and teas 76%. I do have the adventage of healthcare work experience, second language, need to work, no repeats in science courses... points.
I think Chabot focuses more on academic achievements rather than life experiences. Maybe that explains the high NCLEX passing rate comparing to other schools in the area.
Let me know if you hear from ohlone again. I will keep you posted too.
Good luck on your journey! I can't believe school is gonna start in like 3 months.
No, I haven't seen anything at all on an in-person orientation. I looked at the student handbook seeking more information like you are but some of what's in there contradicts what I was told at orientation, like the days when classes are held. There's also conflicting info within what they sent us- in one place it says the flu shot is due in August, but that new vaccines are released in September, and in another place it says get your flu shot in September. As far as start date I'm pretty sure it's 8/28- if you search for Ohlone college catalog it only lists the 2016-2017 catalog, but in the side bar there's a link to search for classes, and when I search for nursing classes Fall 2017 they mostly start 8/28. But I agree, the paperwork is very confusing.
I did a test drive from my house in Oakland yesterday out to Ohlone and Chabot- I had been to both before for the info session but hadn't been fully visualizing myself there. I'm leaning towards Chabot as with light Saturday traffic the drive was 25 minutes shorter one way- it's a small thing to base a decision on but the 1.5-2 hours each week could really add up over two years, given how busy we'll be.
Where else were you admitted, @YennieMEOW?
I've not sent in my form because I'm pretty sure I'm going with Chabot- I don't want to make more paperwork for them. I did see that typo in the subject line but all the paperwork from every school has been littered with things like that so I'm not worrying about it.
I do have good academics/TEAS and no work experience or second language so that makes sense. It's also helpful to think about since if I go to Chabot it seems like my cohort will be learners more like me- book smart but not necessarily hospital experienced. I've been a bit worried whether everyone would already know their way around a bedside so your insight is helpful, thanks!
I'm so excited to get started, I've been taking pre-reqs for almost four years (I started out thinking I was going a different route so some didn't turn out to be neccessary). I'm so happy it's finally happening!
I receieved a letter of acceptance from Ohlone today! I am an alternate at Chabot and was hoping for them because I they are closer and as a current student at their sister school, Las Positas, I am more familiar with the layout. I wonder if we can call and ask which alternate they are on!
Does anyone know the due dates for the background check? The forms they sent over are vague. Some have due dates and others just say ASAP.
I emailed Chabot last week on Friday and they said they were up to 10. Catherine asked that I check back in a few weeks. Has anyone checked on the status this week?
In the meantime, I accepted at Ohlone. If Chabot takes me I may withdraw from Ohlone since Chabot is closer and that was my first pick. But I will take what I can get!
