  1. Hi Cheethaj, are you still active on this site?
  2. Hi, i'm just seeing this thread. i just graduated from ohlone college's program. the waitlist is different now than it was when i started but i'm sure fundamentally the same. everyone who currently was accepted in the program has a certain date they have to reply back to state whether they have accepted the spot or turned it down. once they receive notice that someone is not going to be attending the program, they notify the persons by number on the waitlist either by email or by phone. so ITS SUPER IMPORTANT to check your email including spam and return their call. if they dont hear from you they move on to the next person. i wouldn't be deterred. i initially was due to start in the spring but got bumped up start a semester earlier because they had alot of people decline and accept at other schools. like every nursing program, it has its pros and cons. ohlone is no different; however, they are a great program with great faculty members who are determined to see you succeed. my class (i cant speak for other cohorts) always got so much praise from nurses, cnas and doctors for being proactive and going the extra mile to help with patient care. CNAs loved us because it helped with their patient load.
  3. Hi John, I'm in the process of writing my explanation letter for the BRN. Would love to find out what your wrote and help. Thanks!
  4. Hi cheethaj, For the written explanation portion, how detailed did you go?
  5. HepB series shots plus the titer is required. Its probably the most essential vaccination especially when you go into clinical sites because its a blood-borne pathogen. Usually, it wont affect your ability to start as long as you are "in the process: of getting your series. I suggest getting it done ASAP - you'll need for any nursing program you get into.
  6. This may be a little late but disregard the flu shot portion. That is one of the few vaccines they aren't too strict about because flu vaccines are typically available until September or October. If you're lucky and get placed at Washington Hospital for clinicals- they provide flu shots during the season and you can submit a copy of that.
  7. Congrats to those who got into Ohlone's nursing program. I just finished my first year of nursing school at Ohlone. The paperwork is definitely confusing and to be honest, Zelma is not the best of help. I would recommend getting your background and vaccinations (especially these because you'll need them regardless of which program you pick). Typically, you get Monday's off at Ohlone because of faculty meeting days; however, there will be some Mondays you have to be on campus for lab/skills. Just know that lectures are on Tuesday and Wednesdays (and some Mondays). For all programs you have to be critical thinkers. Being book smart or hospital experienced doesn't determine your experience in nursing school. Some are book-smart but struggle at bedside or vice versa. Ohlone is revamping their program to include a pharmacology course, separate OB and Pediatric portions and when I started they had changed their testing criteria to reflect the NCLEX.
  8. Either program is great! Getting into any nursing program in California is an achievement on its own. I' m currently in the nursing program at Ohlone and sometimes I wish I would have gone to Chabot but I'm closer to Ohlone. Ohlone really emphasis on preparing you for the nclex so they test like the nclex. Message me if you have any questions!
  9. congrats! chabot is a great program. i'm in the ohlone program and from what I hear from a faculty member who taught at chabot and ohlone she said chabot models their program better.
  10. congrats! thats amazing. i look forward to meeting you during orientation. you are assigned a "big/mentor" and we help you navigate you during your first semester.
  11. congrats! look forward to meeting you.
  12. Ack, a bit of a late response but they've contacted me. I was accepted into the Spring 17 cohort #30 or 8th on the WL for the fall. I was notified and accepted the spot in their Fall 16 cohort.
  13. Hi!! Congratulations! I was initially accepted into the Spring 2017 cohort as well (#30). I was called today by Ohlone and bumped up to start in the fall. Have either of you recieved a call?
