Chabot College Fall 2011

Published

Guys, I'm very anxious about this year's lottery. I can't wait any longer.

My question is this: I do not live in the service area, but do I still have a fair chance like everyone else or does being in their area get the upper hand? Also, I checked my status on their class web and it says that my major is nursing. Does that mean anything too or is everyones major nursing?

Anyone else applied?

Same with me, I met the requirements but was not selected in the lottery. I feel a bit upset because it is closer to my home, but I am still happy that I have a seat at Merritt College!

I hope you get selected in other schools that you are still waiting for!

Chabot will no longer use the lottery for the selection of students, this year was the last. They will instead have a university system, which is based on the GPA and TEAS score and also health care experience. They will just pick the top 60 who have the max points, I guess it's good news for those with 3.5-4.0 GPA and also those who can make the perfect TEAS score, they can guarantee their seat in the program. I wonder if other schools will follow this system?

Yeah, I read that about them changing the selection porcess. That sucks! I have a 3.3 GPA avg and passed the TEAS but I'm not sure thats enough to get me in next year. Ugh!! I feel so sad I didn't get in. I've heard so many people talking about applying multiple times and not getting in...so I knew better but stil was really hoping.

Hi,

That sucks, so what did your friend do? That is really un-ethical, if they are making "clerical" mistakes why should the applicants suffer?

I received my notice as well:

"You have a 3.36 GPA, but did not meet the cut off criteria of 3.54 GPA".

So I have a problem with this notice: when applying there was absolutely nothing stated about a cut off criteria with a 3.54 GPA, so I find the website information (that was during the time of application turn ins) to be very misleading information. I am 98% complete with my GE, my science GPA is strong (3.5+), and I took the TEAS V two weeks ago -achieving a 76.4% while the ADN/BSN Mean is 68%. I don't want to sound like a complainer, b/c I know things happen for reasons, but I just feel a bit mislead -and as if I wasted my time and money in transcripts to even apply. Had I known the criteria score was 3.54GPA, I would have never applied.

Pennypjs,

My friend actually just left it be and didn't do anything about it because she's still enrolled at CSUEB, like me currently, and decided to just continue her Health Science BS degree there. She didn't feel like fighting against something so ridiculous as to a clerical error like this. Mistakes like this could be the reason why they're changing up their selection process after this year. I'm really sorry to hear about the mistake they made on your application. If you feel strongly about it, you can always contact their admissions office.

Best regards,

AngA

Hi Cee Lee 78

I received a notice similar to that but they screwed up my GPA calculation. It said:

"You have a 3.05 GPA, but did not meet the cut off criteria of 3.06 GPA".

My GPA is higher then that and I was a qualify applicate last year. I recall on their website that you need to have a 2.5 or 2.7 GPA to be consider. I think they totally mess up this year.

How come the cut off criteria is different between you and me, 3.06 and 3.54? This sounds fishy to me!

Were you guys applying to different campuses? Maybe they had different cut off scores for the Valley Memorial vs. Hayward campuses?

They have one applicant pool, with the same requirements for both campuses.

This anxiety is killing me. One more week and I find out if I'm officially in.. I'm trying my hardest to not let the anxiety mix in with my stress for my Finals at Cal State next week. Crossing my fingers that #7 is a lucky enough number for me! :uhoh3:

Good luck Angela!

Good luck Angela! I think you're going to get that call. I still haven't gotten anything from Chabot!

What the school doesn't state is that the criteria score is used to calculate our GPA and other factors, but it still didn't make sense when calculated. I have mix feelings now. Oh well. I think I am better of going for my BSN.
