Chabot College Fall 2011

U.S.A. California

Published

Guys, I'm very anxious about this year's lottery. I can't wait any longer.

My question is this: I do not live in the service area, but do I still have a fair chance like everyone else or does being in their area get the upper hand? Also, I checked my status on their class web and it says that my major is nursing. Does that mean anything too or is everyones major nursing?

Anyone else applied?

Anyone know if Chabot posts a list of people who got in. I haven't from them at all. Has anyone esle got a response?

To Grch: Chabot does not post any lists, they have sent out letters through snail mail.

New Question: Does anyone know how many alternates they choose for the Livermore Extended Campus? I know they choose 40 students for the Chabot campus then 20 for the Livermore Campus, so that means they choose 60 alternates. Is it the same then? 40 in the alternate pool for Chabot and 20 for Livermore?

I spoke with one of the co-directors of the program and it seems as though they have different alternate pools for different campuses, meaning that the alternate number you are given is for that certain campus and people from that campus must decline their position to be moved up..

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong or if I am interpreting what the co-director had told me incorrectly.

Def back to sleepless, anxiety nights again now that Finals are coming to an end. :uhoh21:

Got an answer to my own question: Yes, there are different alternate listings for each campus.

Gah, I have no idea now how that makes my chances. It might make it less likely since it's not an alternate list for the WHOLE program. Sigh!! *crossing my fingers*

At least finals are done! I can at least relax on that! Trying to stay positive!!

Good luck to everyone else still awaiting their acceptance elsewhere! Or even Chabot! :)

I was on the waiting list and I found out yesterday that I got in yay!!!!! I live in Pittsburg, is anyone in the nursing program that lives around this area? Just wondering to see if it's better to take BART or to drive.

Congratulations Veronica! If you dont mind me asking, Which campus were you placed in: Hayward or Livermore? And what number were you on the waitlist? I haven't heard anything about my alternate Position and I was just wondering so I know whether to continue at Cal State or take my chances on getting in.. Thanks!

Thanks Angela...I was in the waitlist for Hayward and I was #10. Hope it answers your question. I have been speaking to the assistant adminstrator of nursing program at Chabot and she said Monday was the first day they started calling people on the waitlist. She emailed me with the Congrats...so maybe you can check your email if not I would call them to see where you are in the waitlist.

Thank you Veronica for your response! #10, very lucky! I am #7 for the Livermore campus, and I had taken your advice and gave Catherine, the asst. admin., a call myself. (She and I had become very acquainted from all the past phone calls I've already been making.. hehe) She had informed me that they're on alternate #5 right now and waiting for a response.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high because that #5 or #6 might just accept!

Catherine told me to call again early next week for another update. **crossing fingers**!! If I find out early enough I'll be able to drop out of this summer quarter at Cal State! :o

Good Luck! I think you will get in.

Oh and to answer your original question, just from "google mapping" it, and seeing how long it would take from Pittsburg/Baypoint to Hayward bart station it takes about an hour, PLUS a half an hour bus ride to the Chabot Campus from the Hayward Bart Station. It takes about 50 minutes to drive, so I would definitely choose driving (or carpooling!) if possible to save you that extra half an hour to get from Hayward Bart to the campus. :) Hope that helps!

I was thinking the same thing, thanks for responding. Hopefully by next week you'll be in the nursing program.

Hey Angela, I am looking to apply for Chabot! Wanted to know what your overall GPA, science prereq GPA, Teast test were? Also, I live in Pleasanton so want to apply to the Livermore campus. Is this located at Las Positas College? Did u have any documented paperwork like Disabilities, worked while taking classes, foreign language that gave you extra points?

I have my Bachelors degree and have an undergrad GPA 3.1 prereqs are pretty good.. I am afraid that there are going to be too many applicants applying and I won't have a shot especially for the livermore campus.

Hi Jen! I ended up getting the call from Chabot JUST yesterday.. 2 weeks before first day of school!! Isn't that crazy!?!

To be honest, I do not feel comfortable releasing that type of information, especially online for the world to see, so please check your personal message inbox for my reply on my stats.

ALSO! Because the pre-reqs and requirements for the next application period has now changed, and the requirements are much higher now. I believe they are now basing their decisions upon merit rather than just lottery, just like any State/University does for their Nursing programs.

Looking at your stats so far, you have a pretty good chance, from my opinion.

In regards to the Livermore campus, it is not located at Las Positas College, but at the ValleyCare Medical Center in Livermore off E. Stanley Blvd. It's a separate division right next to the hospital named Mertes Felt Education Center, and I believe most of the clinicals are done at the Hospital as well as others for different rotations.

Good luck to you applying the next time around! You may have a better chance now that it's based on merit rather than lottery! :)
