I started at Valencia Summer of 2004. I stayed there through the FALL when I then decided to transfer to Florida Hospital because Valencia has a HUGE waiting list (speak to miss molly). So I took some pre-reqs at Florida Hospital this Spring and was accepted based on GPA, Entrance Essay and pre-req completion to start at Florida Hospital in August. This put me atleast one year ahead of my clasmates who continued at Valencia. Dont get me wrong... I loved Valencia but I cant wait 1 to 2 years to start something. Florida Hospital is also a great school. A little harder than Valencia, but I still got good grades in my pre-reqs there, so its doable.
I did look into Fl Hosp. college but it is a very expensive school and they required ACT/SAT etc and they made it seem that I would need to do the ACT..not sure if this applies if i have my pre-reqs. I did not realize how long the waiting list is a VCC...I am a career changer like you and I need to get in and get ASAP I don't have 2yrs to wait. What was your GPA for getting into nursing school?
thx for the heads up:uhoh3:

Hi Frankie & Coco,
I am finishing an online LPN program this Fall with Deaconess College of Nursing. I had planned to complete the program all the way through to RN but the tuition just keeps going up. So I am looking into transferring to Seminole Community College's LPN to RN program for May 2006. I have all the prereqs and a pretty good GPA, but I will not have my LPN license until Dec/Jan so I will not have the 1000 hours of experience required by the application deadline of February 17th . I was told today that I could still apply and fill out a request for waiver on the experience (since the program starts in May 2006 and I will have a 1000 hours by then). It will be up to the acceptance committee whether I will be accepted without the experience at application, otherwise I will probably go the Excelsior College route.

hello,
Im getting ready to graduate from LPN school from Orlando Tech Sept. 7. I plan to either get my RN through Excelsior or go to Seminole Comm. College. Its nice info to know u can ask for a waiver for the 1000 hours. In that case maybe Ill finish up those few pre reqs I have left after all
If anyone is looking into starting excelsior in the near future and wants a buddy let me know!

I have heard the O-Tech program is pretty good...was considering for myself at one point.
Please keep in mind that SCC might not approve the waiver of experience...she told me I could go ahead try it and see what they decide. I have since decided that working fulltime and doing the SCC program would severely diminish my family time.
On the other hand if you decide to do Excelsior let me know...I am really starting to feel certain this is the route I want to go and I would love to have a study partner. I plan to get started in January...

Cheri,
a friend of mine from school and I are thinking of doing excelsior together. Maybe we can have a study group! We are looking at December/Januaryish too!
I keep going back and forth....I have no doubt that I can complete the coursework in minimal time frame, but Im worried about the CPNE bc the wait is getting longer and longer plus its supposed to be so hard and as a new LPN my experience will be limited! Also Im afraid to fail the CPNE and then wait ANOTHER 6 months to take it again! If that was the case, then I would have been better off to go to SCC or Valencia...lol.
BTW, I wonder what the wait list is like for the bridge program at Valencia? they waived their experience requirement.
Also, something else pretty cool is that at UCF they have a program that takes u from ASN straight to MSN in 2 years! More incentive to hurry up with my RN already! plus I really want to work in Labor and Delivery and they dont hire LPNs
By the way, do u know where u wanna work when u graduate with your LPN?
hey guys i was figuring since we are getting to know each other lets share some basic info...kids/no kids,? what area u guys work in? etc just some fun stuff:chuckle
I'll go 1st...i live in the Maitland/Altamonte springs area...no kids just a spoiled fur-baby (sheltie). Work 8-5 office job trying to get a job as a CNA/PCT/Clinical tech at ORMC or Fl Hosp....finally trying to get A's in my summer classes Nutrition & Gen Psych.
happy & safe 4th
