Central Florida Students Roll Call

U.S.A. Florida

Where is everyone???

Where are the Central Florida students in this FORUM?

Where are you studying? And when did you start/ or will start?

I'm in Orlando and anxiously waiting for my Nursing Program to begin in late August at Florida Hospital Colege.

Also, something else pretty cool is that at UCF they have a program that takes u from ASN straight to MSN in 2 years! More incentive to hurry up with my RN already! plus I really want to work in Labor and Delivery and they dont hire LPNs :(

I also heard of the ASN to MSN...but i also heard that you have to have 2yrs of RN experience B 4 u can even apply? Is that true? Also grades have to be really good...any i will definately be trying for it also after i get my RN:rolleyes:

Well I will follow....

I am married, no children!!! I work as a PC Technician part-time (25h week)

for a retail chain in Orlando. I studied 2 semesters at Valencia CC last year and transfered to Florida Hospital in the Spring of this year. I applied for the August 2005 program and got accepted fourtunately (competition is fierce). I am currently taking Comp II and Sociology back at Valencia while I wait to get started at Florida Hospital in the Fall. I am from Brazil and moved here to the US late 2002 (but I had lived here before while in elementary and junior high). I love skydiving and have over 300 jumps, I am currently away from the sport because of college (can't afford it anymore for now, I had to make a choice... Nursing School or jumping, I could'nt do both). I'm still not sure I made the right joice, JUST KIDDING!!

Well I guess that's enough about me. Who's next???

hey guys i was figuring since we are getting to know each other lets share some basic info...kids/no kids,? what area u guys work in? etc just some fun stuff:chuckle

I'll go 1st...i live in the Maitland/Altamonte springs area...no kids just a spoiled fur-baby (sheltie). Work 8-5 office job trying to get a job as a CNA/PCT/Clinical tech at ORMC or Fl Hosp....finally trying to get A's in my summer classes Nutrition & Gen Psych.:p

happy & safe 4th

what is excelsior?

hello,

Im getting ready to graduate from LPN school from Orlando Tech Sept. 7. I plan to either get my RN through Excelsior or go to Seminole Comm. College. Its nice info to know u can ask for a waiver for the 1000 hours. In that case maybe Ill finish up those few pre reqs I have left after all ;)

If anyone is looking into starting excelsior in the near future and wants a buddy let me know!

Hey everyone, just reviving an old thread. Hows it going for everybody? Graduated? Still in school? Just got accepted?

I just started my first job as an LPN and Im starting to take classes thru Excelsior College (distance learning) for my RN after Christmas. Im already studying, I just wont have the money to start forking over for the exams until then. Im also taking a couple of classes at SCC to finish my AA bc Im only a few classes short and I might as well get it. Plus I can get a grant (my income was low last year bc I only worked part time at starbucks while in school) and a loan so I can use some of the leftover money to help me pay for Excelsior.

Just checking in and trying to find out how everyone else is!

hey all,

Just keeping this thread alive...where r u working luv4nursing? and how is it going? Hey Coco! Im working for ChildrenFirst (peds home health) and I really like it a lot. The pay is good for no more work than I have to do. The pay ranges from 15-19 for LPNs depending on the severity of the case, my patient pays 16.50 (big raise from the $7/hr I made at Starbucks while in school) and I get 40 hours from her alone only working 3-4 days a week. I can easily pick up overtime when I take on more patients, and its not tiring so I feel I could easily work 60 hours a week if I need to.

I have lots of downtime with my patient especially since I work overnight so I will be able to study while at work. Ive gathered the materials to start Excelsior College for my RN and Im starting to study for the first Nursing Concepts class/exam. Im gonna take it after Christmas bc money is tight right now, Im still catching up on bills I ran up in school and trying to buy Christmas presents. Im getting a laptop for Christmas from my boyfriend, which will be awesome! They have wireless at my patients house so I can get on the internet with my laptop at night. Thats about it for me! How is it going at FH? If u get a chance sometime, someone mentioned they are starting a program for new LPN grads, can u find out if thats true? Id appreciate it!

Hi Everyone!

I missed this thread I guess...I live in Orlando, am married and have two daughters, 12 and 4. I work 40 hrs doing accounting/admin work for a copier company in Maitland. I am finishing my last week of the third semester of an online ASN program (Deaconess College of Nursing). I leave for St Louis to complete my week long semester evaluation on Dec 7th.

Once I finish this semester I will sitting the LPN boards so that I can start working in healthcare. I am transferring over to Excelisor College to finish my ASN. I am also finishing up a couple of gen eds I need for my BSN, so I will be doing Comp II and Speech online with VCC. Plan to start my BSN as soon as I graduate from Excelsior.

I have been doing my clinical work at Heart of FL off Hwy 27 and 1-4 for the last year and really like the facility. I am hoping to get a position on their PCU unit once I pass the LPN boards in January 2006. I am very excited!

Best Wishes to everyone getting ready to take finals for the Fall. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Hey Cheri!

I remember u, glad u are almost finished! I finished up in September and took boards in October. Now Im starting Excelsior, Ive gathers a lot of materials from half.com and ebay so Im all set to go! Im also getting a laptop for Christmas so I can take it to work (private duty) and study there.

How far away is Heart of FL and do u think they hire many LPNs? I mean I know they will probably hire u since they know u but I never see them hiring otherwise! I really want to find a hospital position but what I may end up doing is waiting until Im mostly done with excelsior and get an exernship type job as a student RN. Id also try to go through a GN program after I finish so I can get a nice long orientation and learn how to function in that setting as an RN. I cant wait! being an LPN is great but being an RN will be much better as far as better money and opportunities!
