Celebratory Tattoo?

Published

I graduated on May 19th and have been toying with the idea of getting a small tattoo when I pass my boards-something with a nursing theme...Any ideas?:D

My cousin got her first tattoo today and I went for moral support(I have 4). I was tempted to get mine today but I still haven't settled on a design I like so I'm going to hold off until I find one I really love.

Do you know of anywhere online I can look at designs? I know what I want but I can't draw it and was hoping to find it and print it.

I have a tattoo of the staff of asclepius. As previously stated, he was the original greek god of medicine. the commonly recognised cadeucus is not a medical insignia, it it the staff of Hermes who was the god of commerce.

Good luck!

I think you should get a tiny nurses cap with the little red cross in the middle and underneath write "nurse." :lol2:

Okay, that might be kind of cheesy, but it's a thought. I'm not big on tattoos and I would personally never get one, so maybe that's why it's hard for me to imagine something cool to get!!

oooo OR you could get a stethoscope? hmm?? lol

Good luck and let us know what you get...in pictures, of course.

After seeing a code i do believe my new tattoo will say *DNR*, prolly on my chest

An oil lamp is the accepted symbol for nurses, rather than the caducus. Sort of like a jinn's lamp, with a small flame. That's such a good idea, I might get one myself. :blushkiss Thanks.

Thanks for the reply...I have been looking for a symbol to use..I thought maybe that symbol with the snake around the pole but I think that's more of a medical symbol. Then I saw a chinese symbol for healer but I just read an article that said you have to be careful because the symbols aren't always translated correctly. My luck, I'd end up with one that said "bimbo" or something!:roll

It's funny that you mention this... I just graduated in May and got the Chinese symbol for healing as a tattoo. My mom, while not disapproving, asked me if I was sure that I knew it was translated correctly. My sister piped up and said, "Yeah, it could mean stinky diaper or something!" I replied that since I was working in NICU, "stinky diaper" was probably the most appropriate thing I could have tattooed on my body!

In all actuality, I found my symbol in a reliable dictionary, and am fairly confident that it is actually what I think it is. Additionally, I think the chances of someone who speaks Chinese looking at my tattoo and telling me that it's wrong are slim to none, so as long as I think it says "healing" and it's significant to me, then I am happy with my decision.:nurse:

I REALLY like that idea...maybe I'll wait until I've graduated, and get that...

I got myself a tattoo back in April while I was still in nursing school. It's RN written in fancy letters and a small red cross next to the 'N' for my red cross volunteerism - both of which I'm dedicated to. I knew it was a bit premature to have the RN tattooed (which it's on my foot - I'll explain in a bit) being I hadn't even graduated school (which I since have and am taking my boards in 3 weeks), but for me it was sheer inspiration. I had the tattoo and it's permanant - therefore I had to earn it by doing the best I could through school and now studying for my boards. And it's truly worked for me. As for why on my foot? Well when I got my first tattoo when I was 19 (only a whopping 8 years ago), I wanted to get it somewhere that as I aged would not wrinkle, deform nor sag thus making it truly hideous. I wanted to enjoy it for the remainder of my life and have it just as pretty as the day I got it. Thus I thought about my feet - looking at old people's feet they really don't change vastly, so my tattoos would look the same there for years.

Well now that I passed my NCLEX I have "earned" the tattoo rather than getting the tattoo after passing my NCLEX. I needed that as inspiration! :balloons:

A nurses cap atop a heart with a four leaf clover for good luck!

I got one! However, it really has nothing to do with nursing, ha. It was my 'yay I graduated tattoo!' still though. It's a pink star on my wrist. Yeah, Im kinda worried about how I'll cover it up for work and stuff, but I figure I'll try getting away with it as long as I can...not to mention I am always cold so I'll have a jacket on 95% of the time.

How about...

"FINALLY!"

Let everybody know that FINALLY you are a nurse!

I LOVE the idea of a celebratory tattoo! In April two of my nursing school buddies got beautiful ivy leaves in consideration of our grueling experience in the I.V. therapy unit of our fourth semester. Taught by our very own drill seargent ex-army instructor. I love my tattoo and get tons of compliments on it wherever I go. We toyed with the idea of getting nurses cap, cute, I think. But I'm the last one to take my NCLEX, 4 days from now!!! So no new tattoo yet.
