  1. ok so im a new grad any links to the procedure?
  2. fly nurse? im a LPN now Just got into my RN program and in a year ill do my emt-p
  3. charge nurse did the paperwork. very good idea, thank you
  4. no but tonight im going to have security open the edu office where there is a stocked unlocked crash cart and im going to have a mock code for all the nurses on the floor tonight.
  5. OK so last night im @ the front desk and the phone rings, charge nurse answers and says "what?" being a tele floor about the only calls we get @ night are "you have leads off in 4406" so i look @ the monitors and i see a pt who is brady ie 39 . well as i watch it drops to 32, so i haul ass the the pts room ( stop to grab vs machine as i go. when i walk in i see a look of fear on the pt's nurses face. Now this nurse is a BSN and is ACLS however she looks confused and is trying to talk to the pt. I yell one time w/o response from said pt. i sternal rub this guy w/o responce. so i hit the door running for the crash cart, when i get back we start the process. Now this is where i become confused. im waiting on orders from said nurse (remember she is has her ACLS) but i get nothing i mean she is completly confused as to what to do. so i mean i take over (telling her to increase o2 15L, other nurse to grab ambu, other nurse to hook up leads as im doing chest compressions) and i wanted to push epi as protocol states. Also this code was ran like crap, 4 yes 4 RT where in the room and it still took about 6 minutes to get suction started. the Doc was yelling, and Er nurse that showed up was screaming (she wasnt even to be there) the to CCU nurses that responded where bullied out of the way by the ER nurse when they where the ones who where to be there. I guess i told you all that to ask this. I have been a nurse for 6 months and i was the one who was stuck running it until doc got there. I seen alot of crap that went wrong and i want to tell my unit sup so these things can be improved for future codes, however i already know she will look @ me cazy D/T "extensive" background. Any suggestions?
  6. i have thought about it many times, however i once was eating with a surgeon and we where talking about my future goals and i said something about becoming a NP and the doc went into detail about how even NP still are more nursing oriented then medical. All the research i have done does not disprove that statment at all so i dunno.......................
  7. OK i love my pt's and i really enjoy being a nurse, however i am already sick of the "nursing thought process" i want to know the medicine aspect of everything. i guess what im saying is should i go to med school? Do u think a nurse would make a good Doc? :monkeydance:
  8. you would??? and u would end up infront of ur BON. If there is no DNR on the chart or in my hands that man would be a full blown code!
  9. we also have techs that set in a tele room. howvere 90% of are nurses r ACLS and can read the strips, however we dont have time to set and watch the monitors on the floor so its nice to have someone call through a direct line and say hey 4406 is in VT.
  10. fastest RN is 2 years add another 1/2-1 for pre reqs.
  11. I spent the 2 weeks in the nursery as apposed to bein on the LD/ob floor. Now i had a great time with the kiddos, but would have been in over my head with the moms for sure
  12. see emesis, snot, ne oral secretions do not bother me at all. I was told by the House Sup the other day that i had choosen the wrong career because i refused to tech for 26 pts. I told her straight up if u need techs higher them and dont ask us nurses to do their work. ( i know i got a little hot headed but..............)
  13. On my unit it goes: O2 2-4L NC, NTG SL 1tab q 5 x3, Morphine IVP, Call doc if un relieved
  14. This comment makes me very angry, i am a young male nurse and i refuse to do a female cath without another person in the room. Some pts are senile, and whats to stop them from saying he touched me here or did this to me. You dont have to do my job but some1 needs to be their and have my back if a problem arises. Be more specific or understanding!!!!!!!!
  15. Well im a 22/M who picked nursing as a career with hopes of being on the helo. while i work toward my RN i am workin on a cardiac floor. My problems arise from me not being able to take part in a "code brown" i mean i get so sick, vomit at times and i feel so bad because the pt knows its because if them im doing this. I also notice i dont have what i call "parents instinct" u know the small stuff. I try to remember what i miss so next time i will not but its the none critical stuff that i almost always forget about. I have only been doing this for 3 months now and my patients seem to love me however i fill like there is more i can do that im not. ER is where i feel i need to be, for some reason if things are fast and crazy i function better. So i dunno..........
