Im graduating in may with a BS in health sciences from Michigan State. The nursing program is extremely hard to get into here so I just decided to get a health related degree while there and then apply to other nursing programs when I graduated.
I applied to about 4 schools and I just got accepted into my first choice school so I dont even care about hearing from the rest of the schools I applied to. Im really excited/nervous and proud of myself because I got in on the first try:D. I also get to start off in the actual nursing courses and clinicals since I already have all the gen ed and pre req courses completed, which also cuts down the cost by $18,000!
What about you guys?
Hi Elli71, I understand how you feel, my commute is 1.5 hours and I commute 4 to 5 days a week, I thought that I would have a problem with it but I don't because I get a chance to clear my mind while I am driving. Also, I record my notes and play them in the car while I am driving. The only thing I hate is the traffic. Traffic is so bad in GA. Its just one of the sacrafices that I am willing to make, besides this was the only school that I was accepted into, so I really didn't have a choice. I would say go for it. You have to remember everyone and their mother is fighting to get accepted into a nursing program.
Thank you Ms Sugr. Is your commute 1.5 hours round trip or each way? There would be no traffic at the hours I attend school, so it's pure 65 miles and hour. I am 115 miles away from school. I remember when I used to work at a car rental agency, they had a vanpool service. I'll need to look into that...I know they need a certain number of commuters though. I know there is a way to make this work. Once I'm in school, I'll meet more commuters. Would you say the first semester is the hardest, or does the nursing program just keep getting harder with each semester?
Hi Ellie71, my commute is 1.5 hours each way and I take full advantage of my cruise control. The first semester at my school is fairly easy. I'm taking clinical skills and professional concept. I was a little stress in my clinical skills class because of the drug calc test, they only give you 3 tries. We hardly do anything in the Professional Concept class, we have a group paper and another small assisgnment to do. There is a lot of reading that I have to do for my clinical class. We have to take these test through the ATI site, and read the chapters in the skills book, and read the teachers note. The skill check off test is 50 pts, so I need to start preparing for that since I only have 4 weeks left. I think that it will start to get hard next semester. I start my clinicals in August and I will only be at school 3 days, which is great. Check to see if the bookstore have the books for your falls classes that way you can get a head start on your reading.
congrats to everyone!! I got accepted into the Nursing Program for September 2010. I'm so excited! I've wanted this for 13 years! Is there anything that anyone can recommend that I will definitely need like a PDA or laptop... what kind of bag I'll need??? Thanks!!!!!
Congrats! I actually bought an iPod Touch to use as a PDA. A lot of people in the program said they use them and I've wanted one for a while so I used the program as an excuse to get one. I really like it a lot. Im alomost positive you'll need a laptop if you want to use it in class to take notes and everything. I view laptops as necessities, I cant live without mine.
But if you really want a lot of really good tips, then check out this thread:

It helped me out a lot in knowing what is needed to prepare for school. Welcome to the Fall 2010 group!
