Wasn't sure the best place to put this, but here's the article:
CDC Considers Counseling Males Of All Ages On Circumcision : Shots - Health News : NPR
What do you think of this? Have you read the African studies and do you think they translate to our population? Do you think it's a good idea from a public health standpoint?
Red I already answered your question. And you've missed the point of that post entirely. *Sighs*
The ritual nick post was your answer? Oh, okay, so you're in favor of repealing federal law then and allowing FGM in the United States alongside our own practice of MGM.
Okay then. I guess I give you credit for being consistent.
Severe pain in the newborn period has long term impacts that should not be ignored. Newborns almost always have inadequate pain relief during the surgery itself and get no post op pain meds. That alone is barbaric.

It's also been shown to disrupt breastfeeding.

I'm not going to answer one way or another because either way it will be misconstrued.
And at any rate, I am out. I have said my piece and will not argue with someone who compares circumcision to rape. Sorry. Can't and won't do it. Rape is a serious crime and I won't allow it to be dragged through the mud for the sake of a debate.
Adios.
Since females are protected by federal law, why shouldn't males be? Or do you think we should change the law so that both girls and boys can legally have their genitals cut when their parents want it?
Are you under the impression that male genitalia is the same as female genitalia? That's kind of one main differences that define gender.
By that logic, all parents should be forced to vax their kids and Jehovah's witnesses' should be forced to consent to blood transfusions for their underage child that could save their child's life.
It's standard practice in the NICU to get a court order for blood transfusion with preterm infants. I'm okay with that.

The member and foreskin is very similar in form and function to the privy parts/clitoral hood. In the case of ambiguous genitalia, they're pretty identical.

My state is great, no court order needed, it's the law. It doesn't matter what the parent's religious beliefs are, thus the medical team can administer blood products etc to minors even if the parents do not want it!

Did you know that females have a glans covered by a foreskin, and that type 1A FGM is directly anatomically equivalent to circumcision as practiced on boys in America? Yet one is federally illegal and the other isn't.
