Specializes in ER/Critical Care.

Hey everyone

I got this from my recruiter yesterday

If any of you have friends who are Critical Care or OR nurses who may be

interested in the Army Reserves please let them know that they just

raised the signing bonus for those specialties to $37,500 for a three

year commitment. The minimum educational requirement is a BSN.

just passing it along.

When did this go into effect? I have not got my orders yet, and if this went into effect Oct 1st, my recruiter is getting an ear full. :angryfire

******* figures...I am going to pop an email to my recruiter as well.

So I emailed my recruiter about this issue and this was his response verbatim:

"Actually, Army Nurses volunteering for active duty during FY09 are

elligible for $40K per year for a three year obligation totaling $120K.

Army Reserve Nurses are being offered $50K."

$50,000 for 3 years? This sounds like the loan repayment.

The way I read it was a straight up 50K sign on bonus, with that being said you made me rethink what it means. :) I will give him a call to clarify.

lahlee, you have misread the incentive or been mislead....

it's 50k loan repayemnt with Reserves.. however you can get some additional lump sum.. but i think it's reduced to 10k and has an additional obligation that IMHO doesn't make it quite worth it...

Ok - Army reserve nursing programs for fiscal yr 2009

  • Special pay: (aka lump sum) 45k for CRNA, 30k BSN nurse (paid in 10k per year for 3 years...once again subtract the taxes.. i use 28% as a good estimate...).
  • HPLR: loan repayment up to 50k (20k at end of year 1, 20k at end of year 2 and 10k at end or year 3.... eligible for amount equal to your initial loan principal, then minus applicable taxes... *i use 28% as a good estimate to subract based on tax)
  • STRAP: for CRNAs, critical care nurses, ADN nurses enrolled in accredited program... 1,907 month stipend for full time students. (I believe you have to already been in the reserves for this program...unsure on this one)

So I guess it would be best not to sign any contracts until around this time of year in case of additional bonuses?

I wouldn't 'count' on that.

Fiscal year (new bonuses) comes out in October annually. If anything when you wait through a fiscal year and IF all nurses that were needed were recruited...then you have to wait.... (recent history shows it doesn't happen often - but did occur last year to my knowledge).

I definitely do not think waiting is a great option.. bonuses might go down as well.. especially if you factor in your own personal situation and the future economy... ;)

Gotcha! Thanks that makes sense.
