Wondering if anyone has recently taken the CCRN exam. How was it? I can imagine that it is tough. What book did you use to study (if any @ all). Thanx

Cardiovascular and Respiratory questions predominate the CCRN test.
I've recently taken the CCRN test and this is what was on my test ...
For Cardiac know your swan readings - left sided vs. right sided failure.
AMI, unstable angina, arrythmias, chf, hypertensive crisis
cardiogenic shock vs hypovolemic shock, cardiomyopathies, & cardiac trauma. systolic vs diastolic murmurs. IABP needs to inlaflate during diastole. pacemaker codes.
Respiratory: reading and interpreting ABG's (I had at least 5 questions on ABG's)
Endocrine: DI, SIADH, DKA, HHNK, hypoglycemia
Hematology: organ transplantation, immunosuppression, DIC, coagulopathies
Neuro: head trauma, acute spinal injury, cerebral embolic events, seizure disorders, aneurysm and brain tumors, encephalopathy, cerebral embolic events, intra ventricular/intracranial hemorrhage
GI: hepatic failure/coma, acute pancreatitis, bowel infarction/obstruction/perforation, acute gi hemorrhage, acute abdominal trauma
Renal: acute renal failure, electrolyte imbalances, renal trauma
and some questions on common sense bedside manners
I studied and passed by reviewing the AACN website where it listed percentages of topics on the test -- googled stuff I wanted to review plus, I had free access to CEU's from the AACN website - so earned CEU's while I studied.
Good luck with your studies and don't read into the questions too much!
Don't waste your money with all of the books and videos. Like many said, the PASS CCRN book is too dry, only do the practice questions on the CD. Also there's a small book, cost 20 something dollars. It is also written by Laura Vonfriolio. It only contains Q & A that will prepare you for the exam. By the time you are eligible to take the exam, it's all that you need. All of my friends that did this have passed (even the ones I doubted-sorry ). The test is much easier that u think. But everyone have their comfort zone. Good Luck.
Thanks for the advice. I'm actually already eligible to sit for the exam (12yrs. exp). I have a co-worker wha actually had the CCRN review dvd's. So, I'll use those. I wasn't planning on buying them b/c they were $199. I just wanted a quick simple review. I have a book that has been a nice review. Thanks again
I took my CCRN yesterday and passed it with 85%. I didn't study at all for the exam. I have been a nurse just for a year.i took just one practice test on Pass CCRN book. If I passed it everyone can pass it I guess. It wasn't that bad. Lots of questions on SWANs and Potent drugs. If you know your hemodynamics stuff and ventelators, you should be fine.
