CCBC Nursing Students

U.S.A. Maryland

I have applied for Fall 2008. I was wondering if anyone who has previously applied for a fall semester remember how soon they recieved their acceptance letter(April or May).

I just received a postcard saying my application is processed and I would receive a letter in "late April". Let the countdown begin. :lol

Thats exactly why I applied to the online program. I figured I would apply to one evening and one online. I just dont know what the best option is with working full-time. I know VJC is the best option because there program is a part-time program in evening and weekend AND I would get a Bachelors in 3 years!!!! I would love that! But good luck with everything!

Are you at CCBC now?

Where can I find more information about the online program? I have checked the website but I am unable to locate the info. Thanks for your help and good luck!

There is no information on there website. Last year I saw like a bulletin about it and emailed Barbara Netzer about it. They are still figuring things all out. You could email her, but every time I emailed her she told me to call her. So I guess it would be easier to just call her because she will probably tell you to do so anyway.

But here is the information I know from what she told me:

Semesters will be to Fall/Spring semesters, you will have a summer and winter break. However, because clinicals are only one day a week the semesters may be a little longer because the normal nursing student gets about 15 hours a week of clinical a week and we cant do that much in one day.

The program is online with one day a week for about 7-9ish hours of clinical, followed by class (lecture and/or lab) at the Catonsville. So one day a week you will have a LONG day, (not sure how long). I have to go for an interview for the program by April 11th. Hopefully I will find out more then.

Im a little worried about an online program because I feel like that means "self teaching" myself, because I have only had one online class and it was heres the assignment and due it. But Barbara Netzer said there is definitely more than just that and there will be discussions and interactions with the teachers and students in the program online. So I guess I will see. Let me know if you call and talk with her and what information she gave you, just in case I missed something or forgot to ask about something! :-D

But I hope this helped a little bit.

Hi,

I am a student at Carroll Community College, I applied for the nursing program here for the Fall and just found out I didn't get in. I was thinking about applying to CCBC for next year but I am concerned about the Teas test. What is on it? Is it hard?

The TEAS test really isn't that bad especially if you use the study guide. I took it once and scored an 82. The test is comprised of reading, math, science and grammar. The hardest part was the science and you should brush up on your math. Sorry you didn't get in at Carroll Comm Coll. I just found out they will be mailing the letters for CCBC on Friday or Monday so I should know this time next week if I got in. :yeah:

I heard from one of my friends yesterday that the acceptance letters will be mailed out this week, and then another friend told me today that they were officially mailed out TODAY!!!! ( A very reliable source told him). I am so nervous :uhoh21:. I wish everyone luck and the very best. I will be praying for us tonight. I hope we all get in.

I GOT MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER TODAY!!!!!!! :clpty:I AM SO EXCITED.

Congratulations! Catonsville, right? If so your 1rst semester will be a blast. The teachers ( Mrs. McDade and Mrs. Brennan) are WONDERFUL! Its a long semester but you will learn a lot! Our class loved Mrs. Brennan so much she was the speaker at our pinning this past Dec.

I was out of town yesterday and just got the mail today.

I was accepted too!!!!:yeah: I'm so nervous and excited!!

Thanks Boonersmom. Yes, I'll be attending Catonsville's Day Program. I am soooooooooo excited. Do you have any advice. I hear Nurn150 is hard. How should I study. I have a 3 year old daughter. Was it hard to balance school and family? Congrats Skyblue77:yeah:.

FutureNurse 82, thanks!! In all my excitement I completely forgot to congratulate you. Congratulations!!!!:yeah: My head is still spinning right now.

WHen you are done with the program you will look back and think Nurn 150 was easy...but when you are in it- it's seems pretty hard! My best advice is to tape record the lectures and listen to them again and get the books " Fundamentals Success" and a good NCLEX book ( Saunders, Lippincott, etc) and do as many " nclex" style questions as you can because that is the style you will be tested in. For clinicals make sure you show up ON time IN uniform with EVERYTHING you need. Also USE the skills lab open lab time if you need it. Brennan and McDade are VERY good teachers. You will hear a lot of "gossip" around the building...please take eveyrthing with a grain of salt. The majority of people who do not do well do NOT apply themselves.

It was hard to balance school + family in the beginning. Please talk to your family beforehand and make sure they know they will have to make some sacrifices for you....my house was a WRECK most of the time..haha.....but there is always time to clean later. Also dont be surprised if you lose a HUGE chunk of your class to Fundamentals...we literally lost almost 50% but from that point on we lost very few people.
