CCBC, Fall 2011 Applicants =)

Published

Hello Everyone,

Here we go again! This is my second time applying to CCBC's nursing program. I look forward to chatting with everyone as we wait for the GOOD news! I believe things happen for a reason! I have good faith that Fall 2011 is going to be my turn for acceptance. I guess we will see if I am right.

For anyone who was not accepted this Spring, we can be a great support system for each other :).

GOOD LUCK!!!

I have not given up, I believe that everything happens for a reason and apparantly it just isnt my time. What does not kill you will only make you stronger. I will repeat a few classes and get at least b's. I am definately getting rid of that proficient 67.3% on the teas and retaking that the first chance I get. The weird thing is that Gwen Jones said as long as it says "proficient" you are good and you don't need to take all your classes at CCBC to get in(Ive seen people who haven't taken any classes here get in). Though those statements may be true, apparantly I could have done something in addition to better my chances and I would have if I was advised to.

Shanelle, I am in the same boat. I am going to take a few classes again and see where I stand in the spring. There's no sense in sitting back and not doing anything when I'm certain that it was my TEAS score that kept me from getting in. I, too, scored in the 60's so even though "Proficient is proficient," it wasn't good enough and I knew from the get-go that it wasn't. I truly believe you need to score at least a 70% or higher to even be considered. What classes do you need to take again? I'm taking A&P II and PSYC 101 to clear my C's. I'm also pulling a higher Math (MATH 153) to hopefully make it look better instead of the C in MATH 111.

I'm already thinking about the next application cycle. :-) Well, for evening program. It's a shame they only allow you to apply in the spring. What's with them not having an evening program that admits in the spring as well?

I know right. I have to do the work thing so I have to do Evening weekend. I think that it would be too much of a challenge to do it online/hybrid although I live for internet classes. I need to be there since I am not the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to sciences, ugh.:uhoh3: Anyway here are my grades. I am posting hoping that the more info we give the more we can anwer for others.

My overall GPA at CCBC is 3.7 but that includes classes that are not part of the nursing program.

Eng 101 - A transferred from BCCC

Eng 102 - A CCBC

Psyc 101 - A transferred from BCCC

Psyc 103 - B CCBC (took it twice)

Statistics - C transferred from BCCC plan on re-taking college math at CCBC

A&P I - C transferred from BCCC plan on re-taking for 3rd time:eek: but at CCBC

A&P II - B transferred from BCCC

Micro - C transferred from BCCC plan on re-taking for 2nd time but not sure where

Sp101 - B transferred from BCCC

Soc101 - B transferred from BCCC

One good thing is that I am waitlisted (#6 now was #7) for Howard Community College n/w program and I work in Howard County. Their waitlist rolls over to the next year, you don't have to re-apply and go through all that red tape again if you send back the paper stating you are still interested and attend orientation(of course I did both cause they call from the waitlist up until the week before school. They only offer n/w programs in the Fall too so I still have to wait another year if they don't get to my number (she said I only had a 30% chance of getting in this year). I don't like that I have to take Chemistry to get in though. I am registered to take it this summer at CCBC.

I know that your grades don't transfer in but I am sure that they used my grades for sciences to calculate my GPA. I will try for A's but will be satisfied with B's. I would prefer to go to CCBC because I live in Rosedale and tuition would not be as high as it is going to be because I don't live in Howard County. I hope this info helps you and others and I look forward to future chats.

I am just guessing here... but i bet there are more applicants for the night/weekend programs. You guys are probably just i a much larger pool. madike at dundalk is pretty good for micro.. though a bit confusing. if your ok with a b go with him. though I would suggest getting an A. for statistics i had leitherer at essex. i loved her and got an A but math is just hard.. and her personality may be a little rough around the edges... may take special person to love her.. im kinda "special" in that way:-) --(not a boast on thinking im great... special is the key word there folks):o

p.s i was told they don't care about your overall gpa that much. did you get the little paper work out from gwen jones? not that she is helpful though... definitely retake those c's and do well on the teas and you'll be fine. I took anson for ap1 and 2, if you go with him let me know i can hook you up. hes awesome, knows his stuff and approachable.. even though i do find him ridiculously intelligent and get super nervous around him...:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

Shanelle,

Which chemistry are you taking this summer? I just finished chem 107/108 and if you want you can have my book...should save you some money.

Hello aaverel1,

I am taking 107/108 for summer. Well not really quite sure about 108, I may have to pick that up in fall, the schedule is so wacky. I registered for the fall online and was failing big time so I dropped. I did not purchase the book just the OWL, so I would love to get the book from you. Maybe that is why I was failing. LOL. Can you please email at [email protected] so we can make arrangements. That is super!

Thanks

So if they don't care about our GPA, why are we retaking classes??? lol Anyways, are the teachers you suggesting night/online professors that you know?

Just my 2 cents, but I really believe being done all your pre-req classes helps in getting in. That being said, that does not guarantee you get int. They do look at gpa as well as teas score. I really think you need to be at least advanced on your teas to have a good shot in general. (obviously not everyone may have had advanced who got in, but if your gpa is middle of the road like 3.4-3.6 I think the higher your teas score is the better. Definitely retake classes you got C's in and try to make them A's. And if you didn't get in, don't give up. I know people who have gotten in off the waitlist before, and sometimes it just takes a couple of tries.

Congrats to everyone who made it. I will see the rest of you essex day program admits in the fall!

let me clarify that- they care about gpa obviously, but I don't think they take into consideration classes other that the ones that are required for the program... like if you have an abundance of fine art classes(like me) that doesn't mean anything:-)

robin minor teaches night class.. others don't know i took day

I think GPA matters. I heard you get x amount of points for whatever your GPA is. Not to mention you need to have at least a 2.5 to even apply, so if GPA didn't matter, you wouldn't be accepted. I really think the TEAS is one of the #1 things they look at. My grades are awful (from either being classes I took when I first started college, or lack of interest - especially PSYC 101!) so I really need to replace my C's, which again, I think is another reason I was rejected.

ENGL 101: A

ENGL 102: A

PSYC 101: C - I'm taking this again in the fall.

PSYC 103: A

SOCL 101: B

SPCM 101: C

MATH 111: C - I'm taking this again in the winter,or Statistics.

BIOL 220: B

BIOL 221: C - I'm taking this again in the fall.

BIOL 230: C - I just finished the repeat, I have a B now; I did have an A all semester but I completely bombed my final lab practical because I took it on the night I found out I was rejected. (No excuse, but still.)

My main concern is replacing my C's and taking the TEAS again. I bought one of the online practice assessments last night to get re-acquainted with the questions and start practicing for next time. I'm also going to look into Math tutoring to get a good grasp for the Math section. You truly set your mind to something and you become fully focused when you get rejected and/or you don't get what you want.

Haha, I was typing that while everyone else responded about GPA. So my apologies for repeating what was already clarified by others. :-)

if you want an easy A for psych 101 take it with mark dubey, i found it a waste of time and frustrating due to no class structure- i took it over winter..
