CCAC Fall Applicants 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

CCAC just posted the application packet for the fall 2013 nursing program. Just wondering who else is applying. I have all of my pre-reqs and co-reqs done except for micro which I am taking this semester along with medical terminology and infection control. I'm also applying to St. Margret's. Anyone else?

If anyone needs cpr I'm going to Westview Ems. I alway get mine done there. It is only 25 $ and it is health professional and you get your card that day. Its Thursday night. Its every 3rd Thursday and Saturday of the month. Ths number in ths packet is not right. The number is 412-931-8200.

You have to call them or Jim @ 412-680-5740. Online it says its full but it isn't. He doesn't know why it says that.

Ever had this experience: just as you were on the threshold of your compliance goal, the goalpost is moved for pathetically arbitrary and gratuitous reasons? If you were among the conscientious applicants who downloaded this form early (May 14 in my case), Certified Profile will reject it, because (they allege) CCAC Nursing changed the form, evidently with no warning to its downloaders, even though the download is one of the steps tracked by the CP site. At the very least, they could have broadcast an alert to all applicants to verify their version of the form. Otherwise, all your running around and prodding your doctor's office to complete the form may be for naught when CP rejects your "outdated" form; yes, the very same one THEY gave you.

The difference lies entirely within the first box on page 2, where the one general question on the old form is elaborated into eight more specific questions on the new form.

Old form:

"Does the student have any activity limitations? [yes] [no] Comments: ".

New form:

1. Strength 2. Motor 3. Visual 4. Olfactory 5. Auditory 6. Oral communication 7. Emotional 8. Written communication

"Does the student have any activity limitations? [yes] [no] Comments: ".

If you have the old version, download the new version from the CP To-Do List. So have a look; verifying your form now may save you two more unnecessary round trips to your doctor's office (feeling apologetic and foolish), not to mention the stress of being whipsawed at the eleventh hour.

Hmmm, more broadly, what kind of message does this send to pliant new applicants? That one's mistakes are not to be owned, and that their consequences are best suffered by others? In a profession where responsibility, transparency and honesty are crucial, this seems an inauspicious prelude to next month's orientation.

I love it when my procrastination is rewarded (I'm a big wait till the last minute person). It's a shame though for the people who had to pay out of pocket for physicals because I am assuming it's an extra charge to re-do the form. Just an FYI, the student handbook was added to the CP platform under clinical requirements it's another print, sign, scan, upload document.

In defense of CCAC I don't think it's always THEIR documentation that's changing. Between the clinical location guidelines and the new ACEN protocols I think they're just as much at the mercy of other's clerical changes as we are.

So much for "The early bird gets the worm...."

Hopefully not; I resubmitted only page 2 (page 1 is unchanged) to my PCP, with names/addresses pre-filled. Should take him 30 seconds to check boxes/sign/date it.

Fair point. I take issue only with their failure to notify applicants in a timely way, with the compliance deadline looming. I've seen accepted students lose their place in class for silly reasons beyond their control, like a high school being unable to locate a transcript for a 50-year-old native-born citizen with subsequent BS and MS degrees. Consequences for the student were dire; for the high school, nil.

The same thing happened to me. I downloaded and printed all of the forms the day I registered for CP and didn't realize the form had been updated until it was rejected. This, after I'd already made 5 trips to my PCP's office. They were very kind about filling it out and having it ready for me to pick up, but still... it was a pain having to make another trip. Considering the number of messages I've received from CP reminding me to take the drug test that I am not permitted to take yet, I think they could have notified us all that the form had been updated.

Okay great I'm not the only person that was Highly ****** when this occurred !!! I called ccac and and almost lost it lol but fortunately they were understanding enough to apologize !! But ladies and gents one thing I realized we aren't the first and the last to deal with this type of bs , from what I understand we are lucky compared to previous classes lol so I think instead of complaining which I was very guilty of ; I believe we should now look at this as lesson to to cross our Ts and dot our Is lol CCAC is notorious for being disorganized. After I blew some smoke and thought about what they lacked , it just made me realized to ALWAYS ask questions , double check, and to take my time! I was in such a rush to get things done but but now ill take my time because CCAC changes so freaking much! So anyway despite that minor setback I'm happy to see I wasn't alone lol and we are all showing how much we deserve to be in this program!!!!

They told me that they were going to put an online class together to refresh the Lpns on the info from 110 &120. Well they never emailed or called. I just logged into blackboard and it looks like they put everything from them classes on there on july 2nd. So any lpns for fall check blackboard lots of stuff to go over.

I was so lucky I checked that form again randomly the evening before I went in for my physical (that unannounced change was ridiculous). Now I'm all set except for the drug test.

I went ahead and got the previous editions of the Med-Surg and fundamentals books to look at in the intervening time at a steep discount. Did anyone else do that? I spent $36 total on the books on Amazon (side note: they are seriously heavy). The way I see it, if our instructors absolutely insist on the latest edition, I'll suck it up and buy them, but if they don't, I'm saving close to $500.

I go back and forth between thinking, "there're only five weeks left until orientation!" and "there are STILL five weeks -- I can't wait!"

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone had an answer, I am still waiting for my fingerprint results and my MMR titers to come back, what happens if the results dont come back before July 19??

I would just call and ask. I've never had a problem getting a hold of anyone. Just remember to always document, if you call and explain to them that you are waiting on results make sure that you fax them a copy of your lab and finger print receipts.

Does anyone know how the Summer semester works for the fast track program at Boyce? I know we're going to have classes in the Summer, but I'm curious about whether that means we follow the college schedule for Summer I and Summer II, or both, or neither...
