CCAC Fall Applicants 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

CCAC just posted the application packet for the fall 2013 nursing program. Just wondering who else is applying. I have all of my pre-reqs and co-reqs done except for micro which I am taking this semester along with medical terminology and infection control. I'm also applying to St. Margret's. Anyone else?

Allegheny/evening - living in the city, it works for me.

So I went to the doctor for my vaccinations and my doctor notified me that there is a TB Skin Test shortage and that they are unsure when the test will be available. Did anyone else have this issue and if so do you know where I'd be able to go to complete this? Also she gave me the Hepatitis B vaccine even though I had completed it back in high school. I wont have the third vaccine until after I start the program because of the fact that you must wait so long for each one. Hopefully this does not delay my start date. Any suggestions on what to do?

The health department said the same thing about the PPD. I'm not surr what to do about that. And I d ont plan on getting my Hep B again. I had it 3 times. I never get immuned.

I called Walgreens and you can get it there for $28 dollars. Medihelp also has it for $30 so I would probably go with whoever is closest to your house.

I'm surprised you're having your Hep B done again. You could have called your pediatrician and gotten your vaccine record for it and just had the titer drawn.

I have my records. I'm just not immuned yet. They said I would probably not get immuned.

Yes! ACHD has been accepting only medical referrals for the PPD since March. I checked several urgent care clinics, and they had it for $28-$45. Finally, I called my PCP and they had it for $29, so I went there.

So what does everyone think of the change in the grading scale?

Anyone who wasn't immunized as a child is in the same boat: there's just not time to complete them before class starts. You'll be fine as long as you document where you are in the series, and follow through with all 3. I don't know what they do about repeated negative titers; you'd think at some point they'd stop flogging a dead horse....

I'm assuming it's a requirement of the clinical location.

After getting my titers drawn at ACHD (where they currently have no TB test), I was able to get the TB test done for just $30 (both parts included) at MedExpress on Baum Blvd. So it's out there. Now, you have to appear for 4 office visits over the span of 9 or 10 days, so weigh cost and location.

The nice nurse at ACHD who gave me the first of my Hep B series assured me that as long as my series was in progress, it shouldn't impede me starting school. That to-do list is a beast, but once you've got the blood work results and the Health Exam form, it'll knock a big chunk off all in one go (I learned the hard way that the blood work results will be rejected without the whole Health Examination form)!
