Catheters to Classmates?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

In nursing school do classmates administer catheters to one another?

No!!!!

You will not catheterize each other nor do other procedures that require you to "expose" yourself (i.e. perineal care).

This will be done on mannequins for practice.

No. No way. Never.

Nope. We have anatomical dummies to practice on.

I think that may be an urban legend of nursing school...but no way. You will use mannequins.

I know in some schools people run IVs on each other, which are angiocatheters, which may explain the source of it – or maybe it's just a wacky urban legend.

(I'm really glad I never heard it, even if I wouldn't have believed it.)

Our Microbiology made a comment about it thats why I wondered. Thanks for the responses. I thought that was strange.

Here was a GOLDEN opportunity to have some fun with someone and the first poster blows it. Back to my reading I go.

I literally clenched my legs together reading your post.

For some reason I don't think it would be approriate for students to be looking at or touching each others whoo-has, even if it is for educational purposes. :)
