I HATE care plans!! :) I think this year we're focusing on SOAPs instead.... wooo hooo We had a "burn your careplans" bon fire at the end of last year! (Just shows ya the feeling is mutual!) But, if anyone needs any suggestions I still have mine on the computer .... not getting rid of until I'm out!

I hate care plans too. I kept mine, but I don't know why. It must be the "packrat" in me.
My friend had a ritual burning of hers along with her hat the night we graduated.
Wonder if we could have a tread where we post parts of our careplans for others?? I know we all do them in different formats but it might be nice to have a reference type of thread.
Whatcha think fellow students?

OH! WOW my favorite topic! :)
I love care plans! I love doing all that research (meds, plan of care, lab test results, treatment orders) and that loooong pathophysiology page. I really enjoy all 14 pages of it especially when it takes all night and then the next day when I get to the hospital, the meds have been d/c'd, the labs have all changed, the patient can do a lot more/or less than I imagined, and low and behold, all the treatment orders are different! YIPPEE!
Gosh, I didn't mention how fun it is when you get that thing back from the instuctor and after all that work, she has generously covered it in red ink comments! Boy nursing school sure is fun, and the care plans are the very highlight of the whole experience!
??Everyone got their boots on yet?? It's gettin deep!

Oh Lord, I don't miss those days. My nursing school decided right when I graduated that yeah, maybe care plans are a little out of date...... They are the worst. They are a good learning tool but not when they become so much work that you are missing the point.
I think the feeling is mutual among all students and those recently graduated....It's just one big pain in the a**.

I have to agree,, care plans are one big pain in the butt. Best part was at my school they were required but werent counted toward the grade!!! So,, you stay up, spend 12 hours writing, looking up meds, labs etc. etc, trying to figure out how this pertains to that,, just so you dont get any credit toward the grade but a pat on the head... thank god thats over for me.
The computerized ones at work are so wonderful,, a few clicks and its done.

Care plans they are such time consuming, you need to plan your whole day to set a time for making care plan.
I am a second yr full time nursing student, and sometimes I find it hard to do without reading and looking for up to date research regarding care plans specially if your clinical tutor is very smart, strict and intelligent. It's pain when your studying but I think as a student I learn more from doing it rather than completely ignoring it.

We have one care plan to do this semester. We haven't got to the clinicals site yet, so that is coming later. One of the students who had this class said to look at the patients chart -- there is already a care plan in it. You just need to jot down what the care plan is. ---------- what am I missing in this thread when everyone says they are so hard? Please be nice in replies, this is a serious question -------
