Can't take boards?

Published

I recently graduated with my LPN and am waiting to take boards. I have been in trouble in the past- an OMVI, criminal damaging among a few minor things. Non of these were felonies and only a few days jail time. The board is giving me the run around on taking the NCLEX and I just wondered if anyone else had this problem, or am I the only one and how it turned out. I've worked too hard to change my life and I can't imagine not being able to take them. :crying2:

:o Sorry to hear about your troubles. When I worked in Wyoming I met an RN who had been in prison for murder-a felony of course. Anyway, they let her take the state boards. I am thinking they just have to go thru a bunch of red tape before they let you take your state boards. Good luck

What's an OMVI? What's "a few minor" things.

Good luck. People do change and you deserve a chance.

OMVI=Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated.

I know of a few nurses that had been in some trouble and still sat for boards.

BUT...I know of a nurse that had the same charge on his record and it took several weeks to get approval to work after a hit came up on his background check. I know you have to thoroughly explain your actions, tell what you have done to turn your life around and pretty much promise to never do it again!!

Anyway...good luck to you!

OH...I forgot to mention...the drunk driving charge for this guy was...get this...17 years old!!!

As long as a hit comes up on your background check, you have to go through a bunch of paperwork before a facility can hire you!

The OMVI was last March (2003) the others were 2000. Thanks.

We were told our first day of nursing school, if there were any criminal charges ever on our record, we may or may not be able to sit for boards, and we should contact the board early to find out what needed to be done. We had one student that I knew in our class that had been arrested for drugs (marajuna) when we was a teenager, or early 20's.He was in his late 30's in nursing school. He was able to take his boards, but had to go through some steps before doing so. Each state is different, and each situation is different. Hopefully you can soon take your boards too, Good Luck, Marie

I don't know why my school didn't tell me that, I mean I new it wasn't going to be easy, but I wished I would have known to check with the board prior to being ready to test. They are supposed to be reviewing my application tomorrow the 22nd. I've got my fingers crossed, I will do what ever it takes!

Albeit, not knowing the circumstances or the exact conviction of the "murder", I remain shocked that this person was allowed to take state boards...I assume that this was murder w/ malice aforethought with or without premeditation and deliberation. :imbar

:) She told me that she had been in prison for murdering her husband.

However I don't know for a fact if she was convicted for murder. Maybe she plea-bargained and got it down to involuntary manslaughter?
