I recently graduated with my LPN and am waiting to take boards. I have been in trouble in the past- an OMVI, criminal damaging among a few minor things. Non of these were felonies and only a few days jail time. The board is giving me the run around on taking the NCLEX and I just wondered if anyone else had this problem, or am I the only one and how it turned out. I've worked too hard to change my life and I can't imagine not being able to take them.
2000 and 2003 are recentfor convictions, and since none of them were when you a minor, the board is probably concerned that you repeat the behaviors.
Did you disclose this information on your application to test, or did they discover it themselves?
Also, are you attending AA or do you have anything to show that you are mending/have mended your ways?
Melanie,What state are you from and have you heard anything yet please let us know what is going on, and don't forget that you probably have an appeals option too

i wrote a long reply but the site said invalid? so im going to try to write a shorter one, because i don't feel like typing it all again. anyway yes i told the boards everything and even sent them a printout from the courthouse with my application to test. Also i have a personal counseler and anger manage ment classes for over a year ( this alone contributed alot to my past mistakes, the anger i mean.) and i let the boards know that also. btw-they did let me test with slight restrictions on my licensed and i passed, so now i have to wait until the next board meeting for them to draw up an agreement form that i must sign and return ( stating that i will take drug test every month for a year) then the restriction (or drug testing) what ever you want to call it, will be over. I think this is very fair because they arn't putting a med pass restriction on it- which would make it difficult for a job. the only sucky part the next bard meeting isn't until July22nd!!!!! thanks for writing and forgive my spelling. mw

congratulations!
i know it's hard to be patient when there isn't any imcome, but a month isn't all that long. yea, i know that's easy for me to say so i will tell you what i tell my tbi patient. (i'm in home care) when you are my age, you will have trouble remembering the details of it all.
This is not always true. I was a staff development coordinator for a nursing home for a few months. I was in charge of all the hiring and firing. I had to runa background check on everyone prior to hiring. I f something like this came up it was at my discretion to hire them or not. I usually just ignored it.OH...I forgot to mention...the drunk driving charge for this guy was...get this...17 years old!!!As long as a hit comes up on your background check, you have to go through a bunch of paperwork before a facility can hire you!
:) She told me that she had been in prison for murdering her husband. However I don't know for a fact if she was convicted for murder. Maybe she plea-bargained and got it down to involuntary manslaughter?
i was kind of shocked reading this as well but maybe it was an abuse situation so she had a really light sentence or something, (obviously she is out now so...) :uhoh21:

Can't say for sure, but I am pretty darn sure anything that happened while a minor would not be allowed. Don't they seal those records?
The DUI could be a problem they just have to make sure that's all it was. Sometimes people get arrested for something else but the lesser of the charges is the only thing that "sticks" so they check it out.
You will probably be fine. Keep your head up, everybody makes mistakes and it is by the grace of God that we all didn't end up in your shoes. Everybody has done something, most of us did not get caught!
