Cannot find no ADN programs!

Published

I would like to be a Nurse Practitioner there is many program's online for RN to transfer to MSN (skipping the bachelor degree) which is wonderful! BUT where I live there is only one school for a Nursing program I do not drive and it would be insane to take a cab miles and miles because let's be real you will spend a arm and leg doing so! so I am trying to find a online program because I know online program's offer clinical's BUT my problem is I cannot find a college that offers a associate in Nursing! for a student just starting Nursing. it's stressing because I need my ADN to become a RN to become a NP! anyone know of any online program's in ADN? :banghead:

Oh deers. I can't find no answers to this.

You do have to attend clinical for your ADN so you will have to find a way let's be real I know you can do it!

Good luck.

SO MANY things wrong here:

OP, you cannot do what you are trying to do, period. This is why you are having such a hard time. online programs are designed for those who are already RNs to achieve a higher degree. You are not eligible.

My strong suggestion would be to take a remedial English prep course to try to prepare yourself for the application process (including competencies in college-level English and math abilities). If your post is a decent indication of your language skills, you are not yet a candidate for an ADN program.

Lastly, getting to lectures, labs, and clinical sites is your responsibility and "I don't drive" will not be an acceptable excuse; you will simply be dismissed from the program. You will need to arrange reliable transportation or your days as a student will be very short-lived indeed.

In other words, OP: you have much to do in the way of learning to walk before you can run!

One more thought, OP: would you honestly be able to say that you would choose to have your child, spouse or parent under the care of someone who skipped courses, didn't attend clinicals, and might not be able to write intelligibly in English (so that others could follow the plan of care and understand the nursing notes and med orders)? Would you be ok with that?

I thought to get a bachelor's you need a associate's?

Ever thought I cannot drive for a reason? or just never learned? depended on public transportation? and LASTLY every program online no matter what career path it is offers clinical's! my friend is doing online college and they offer clinical's! I am not worry about the hands on! I am worrying about how to get my AA online being I cannot just move I am not rich to just pick up and go when I please! and I don't want to just depend on this one school near me but guess I will have to check it out before judging.

Show me these online ADN programs. Post a link for us to the website of the school. I would definitely be checking to see if these schools were accredited.

I would be very, no, EXTREMELY skeptical of an online nursing program that offered an ADN. Are you sure your friend is going through an ADN program that's completely online? Or is a hybrid where there are online portions as well as physical classes and clinical? Or is it an online ADN to BSN? That makes a significant difference.

Okay. You don't know how to drive. Learn how to drive. If you could potentially drop the cash for a taxi to school however many miles away, you can certainly get the money together to get a drivers license. Or figure out a carpool. Or whatever. I'm not rich either, but when there's a goal to get to, I'll find a way.

Also, you can obtain a BSN without going through ADN first. Or you can get your ADN and then get your BSN. BSN and ADN have the same scope of practice and both prepare students for NCLEX.

Also check with your state because they may not allow you to get your license if your program was online initially. Here in NY there are some fields where you are not allowed a license if you did not attend a brick and mortar school.

No not for ADN/RN, many people have told you that no, they do not exist but you continue to insist, And no, we do not trust you because you do not know what you are talking about. Geez, you thought you had to have an associates before a bachelors and while some nurses (myself included) earn the ADN first, some nurses go straight for the bachelors.

Again, there are no online Associate degrees for RN. They are all brick & mortar, usually found at community colleges.

OK- so which career online schools are you talking about? Give us a list, we will help you research them.

Again, I don't think your friend is attending an Associate in Nursing online. Is she already an RN with Associated degree and getting her BSN?

You are new to this forum. 1. Using Capital letters is considered rude/shouting "and LASTLY" 2. What do you mean you have not even evaluated the one and only school near you? Get your butt down there, call them, make an apt.

3. It is pretty obvious that English is your second language. I would suggest you take some English grammar/writing courses before applying to any nursing program.

4. You posted on this nursing forum asking for help. Don't argue with the people that are taking time to respond. We actually do know what we are talking about.

I started as an LPN, then ADN for my RN, then the BSN, then MSN/FNP. I also taught for 10 years in a BSN program. I have taught in an ADN program & in an LPN program.

5. Don't whine, or make excuses about your situation ( I'm not rich, don't know how to drive, can't move). Many people have moved to attend nursing school, many of us have worked while going to school, my first job was at hamburger stand, used the money from that job to buy my nursing uniforms for LPN and pay for books, gas etc. My dad worked as a janitor at the university, yeah not a whole lot of money on his salary but some how all 4 of his children graduated with bachelor's degrees, 2 in Electrical Engineering, one in Accounting, & my nursing degrees. My parents did not speak English, it is my second language. They were originally were migrant workers, came to pick crops (cotton, onions, pecans, chile, tomatoes).

AllNurses will help you figure things out but no whining, no arguing, no excuses. You won't get a lot of sympathy if all you do is resist the suggestions people make for you.

Are you by chance an Lpn or Emt?

There are on-line programs for an ADN but you have to be an lpn.

My community college offered lectures online. However, labs, mandatory skill sessions, tests, clinicals, mandatory group lectures like EKG, etc were still on campus and you had to drive. I would estimate I had to come to campus at least four times a semester plus at least three or four times for tests when I did the online lecture. They had skill check offs and sim labs that you had to go on campus. The online lectures were harder than the class portion (I did one or two classes online and the rest lecture). They would give you two days to schedule a test with their testing center and you had to go in. I almost failed a test because the test wasn't approved by the instructor when I went to go to take it (it was during the testing frame).

Clinicals were the same and we had some students with the online portion and some in land mixed in the clinicals.

So it was online but not completely online. You still had in person stuff to do like lab.

The only one similar to the one that you may be thinking of is Excelsior and you usually need to be a LPN or a paramedic to go that route. Not all states accept Excelsior though. California quit accepting it for initial RN licensure after 2009 or 2006. They are completely online and they don't do clinicals in the traditional sense from what I understand.

If you can't/won't drive, how do you expect to get to clinical? Many times students can have to travel up to an hour or more away for one clinical...
