Can nurses get their licenses revoked or suspended for fighting outside of the workplace?

The reason I ask Is because I always thought the board would take some type of action against nurses who are arrested for things like assault and battery outside of the workplace. A girl a know who is an RN recently got arrested for that and she still has a job.

God, a lot of you don't know how to post comments without being so condescending. I can ask a question without being "so invested" in it. I was Just curious.

The irony of your statement is fantastic.

Short answer: yes, I think so.

Probably depends on circumstances, such as self-defense vs. drunk as a skunk and provoking someone else, history, and what state, maybe more factors.

It is pretty hard to say. As mentioned above, an arrest doesn't necessarily mean a conviction. The cops generally don't report things to the board. It is conceivable they would not even know your colleague is a nurse. If there is a conviction, your colleague will have to report it. However, reporting it to the board and telling your employer are also two different things. Note as well that the BON moves pretty slowly at first. It can take years for things to finally shake out.

This very same question came across my mind a couple weeks ago when I was in a movie theater and the guy next to me kept texting (bright light on the phone) even after I told him to stop.
