I live in Ontario. I hope they do. From what I researched it seems med surg gives you more opportunities to use more of what you learn in school

It will greatly depend on where you are. No one can say "they don't work in hospitals" because sometimes, in some places, they still do.
Mostly, however, they don't.
Med-surg floors are becoming heavier, with higher acuity than in years past. That means more IV medications, blood transfusions, higher level assessments and dressing changes.....essentially, predominantly RN work.
In hospitals that have such workloads, they aren't going to hire nurses who cannot do ALL that is required for a patient, and in fact require a second nurse to "cover" them for IV pushes, etc etc etc. They'll just have the one, and it's an RN.
That said, in lower-acuity areas, such as hospital-based outpatient clinics, you will more likely still see LPNs.

In Canada there are tons of LPN/RPN working in medsurg.
From what I have read, Canada is very different from the USA in this regard.

Since the OP is located in Canada, a country with a relatively wide-open scope of practice for LPNs, this thread has been moved to the Canadian Nursing forum.

Yes of course they can. Unlike the US, the scope of PNs is expanding all the time. RPNs/LPNs are being hired in almost all areas now. We are now able to access PICC lines and the rumor is IV push is going to be added to our skill soon.

OOoo! That sounds goood:)
No way l&d and pp!! This is really exciting. I only wish I started sooner. I always thought i wasnt smart enough to be a nurse, and that it really wasnt worth trying. I wish i researched it a little more while in high school
That would really be great I guess time will tell
