It will greatly depend on where you are. No one can say "they don't work in hospitals" because sometimes, in some places, they still do.
Mostly, however, they don't.
Med-surg floors are becoming heavier, with higher acuity than in years past. That means more IV medications, blood transfusions, higher level assessments and dressing changes.....essentially, predominantly RN work.
In hospitals that have such workloads, they aren't going to hire nurses who cannot do ALL that is required for a patient, and in fact require a second nurse to "cover" them for IV pushes, etc etc etc. They'll just have the one, and it's an RN.
That said, in lower-acuity areas, such as hospital-based outpatient clinics, you will more likely still see LPNs.
We sure can! We can also work in L&D, post-partum, ER, OR...in some provinces we can even work in the NICU and ICU! :)
No way l&d and pp!! This is really exciting. I only wish I started sooner. I always thought i wasnt smart enough to be a nurse, and that it really wasnt worth trying. I wish i researched it a little more while in high school
