Can you live a luxury lifestyle as a nurse?

My question is towards nurses that have been in the field for couple of years. I was wondering can you life a nice luxury lifestyle as a nurse? My definition of luxury would perhaps revolve around the ability to own a large 5 bedroom house, the ability to drive a luxury vehicle like BMW or Mercedes Benz, and the ability to take vacations every year perhaps to a different country. Is this too much to ask for as nurse or this beyond the dreams of most nurses and would single nurses be able to achieve this over married with kids nurses?

I wouldn't call your description a luxury life. With a nursing degree(BSN), it is possible to own a 5 bedroom house, a BMW or Benz, and also very possible to take a vacation in another country every year. I know people that don't have a degree who travel every year (outside usa). I know people who get pait $8 and they have a big house and they drive BMW. You don't need to be a doctor or filthy rich to buy these things. The rich don't even think about this stuff, they have bigger plans. You just need to learn how to manage your money...that's all. By the way, not all doctors are rich, not all doctors drive nice cars( i know many), they have lots and lots of loans to pay. I am just a student and I travel every year not to one country but 2-3 and I already drive a good BMW....( and I am not a doc or a nurse and not even rich)and my goal is not to be rich..I know I can't be.......I just want to live a happy healthy life.

I myself don't see anything wrong with evaluating a potential line of work for lifestyle. To each his/her own.

For me when I first looked at Nursing, I saw one big "Job Security" lollipop and not much else.

What do you want the most, the car, the monster house or the travel?

You will most likely not be able to afford all three without a second income, but with saving and planning you can get most of what you want.

. i only share this because i think one can be terribly in debt and appear wealthy. .

defn of status- buying something you don't need, with money you don't have, to impress people you don't like>:)

If your single with no kids you can get close to that life style. Travel or agency nursing pays very well. I know a nurse and her boyfriend who both worked agency nursing and now own 2 homes.

Well I’m not a RN yet but I’m in school to be one. I think that you can do it. I am somewhat living a Luxury life now. I have a brand new 4 Bed room home 3 ½ bath 2,525 Sqf in a very nice neighborhood in Florida and I have a 2010 Ford Mustang. “I really want the infinity G37 coupe” I go on vacation like 3 times a year. I do have a roommate that helps out with the house bills. Once I start working as a RN I’m estimated to make 20k more then what I’m making now.

My sister is an RN who lives this type of lifestyle. She takes a cruise at least every year, often more than once per year. She schedules herself to take several vacations, often across the country or out of country. She lives in a very large house in a very nice neighborhood. She drives a decent car, could have a nicer car but it's not a priority to her... vacation is.

She is an RN in the northwest with 20 years experience that works nights and weekends. Her husband is an accountant.

I'm an RN with about a year experience. I make half what my sister does, but I live in one of those low-paid southern states and won't work nights. And my husband is not college educated.

That is not my definition of luxury. To me that is comfortable. I believe being comfortable is quite possible with a nurses salary depending on experience, how many hours you put in, going salary in the state you live in etc...

I wish that more people/nurses would have drilled into my head how AWFUL student loans can be after graduation. If I would have known how bad loan payments were going to be, I would've worked more in college and applied for EVERY. SINGLE. SCHOLARSHIP. OUT THERE!!! I try to drill that into every college student I come across. My husband and I would have an extra $1400/month for ourselves and actually be able to SAVE for a house if we didn't have loans. Granted, I'm grateful for the loans, because it's better than serving fries and hamburgers without the opportunities with the student loans, but those bills can be QUITE depressing.

So nursing students if you read this... APPLY for scholarships and grants!!!!!!!!!! Fill out every annoying essay and application form you can get your hands on, because when you graduate, you might be able to enjoy some more of your hard earned $$$$!!! :)

1400!!

I only pay $80/month in student loans. I know it'll take a long time, but at least it doesn't kill me now. I graduated with 26K in student loans. IT's managable.

Sure, if you have a trust fund or are married to Bill Gates.

I kid, I know some nurses that I THINK live a cushy life, but they do lots of OT and have no kids.

Luxurious lifestyle as an RN? Probably as a Nurse Anesthetist you can.
