I went and got my schedule yesterday at registration and I am horrified! I do a 40 hour work week and now I'm told I will be at school 4 nights a week plus I have to take micro online somewhere... don't know where yet. I'm scared, anxious.... wondering if I made the right decision.....

Yes you can, YES you can!! It's only a matter of will, take it day by day and not the whole mountain at once and you'll be fine. during my IB Diploma programme i got 5 hours of sleep the last year on average, and i got the award. Keep it up and be strong!

You can do it, it is amazing what we are capable of when we really want something!! I worked all through nursing school (25 hours a week)and had kids to raise by myself.

40 hours is a lot depending on what classes you have, if you could study at work it would be helpful!!

Working prepares you to multitask and be flexible when you get out of school!

Go for it and good luck!!

that.. is why I couldnt work while in school. My program was also 4 days a week, 6-8 hours a time depending on what was going on.

Where there is a will, there is a way. explore all of your options.. you can do it!

MrsD...you go for it girl...you have youth on your side! Yes, it will be tiring, but its a means to an end, a better way of life and pride in what you will achieve when you look back!!!

Best of luck...just do it a day/week at a time and mark off on a calendar how far you come!

One of the tools that I learned about is an hourly schedule. You can make your own grid, start with the time you get up in the morning, then label one side with hour or 1/2 hour increments and put the days of the week across the top. Then make spaces for everything - sleep, study, cooking, cleaning, personal care, driving, work, school, fun, religious/spiritual time, etc...

For example, on Monday, I do laundry at 0500 (which takes approx. 1 hour at the laudry-mat) to 0600, then have a class at 0800 to 1030. The time between is for breakfast, personal care and driving to class with some spare time to get a snack or study more. From 1030 to 1200, I have study time, 1200 to 1230 lunch and so on...

If you are familiar with Excel, you can easily make a grid, but you can draw one too. Use different colors for the different activities, make sure to schedule in down time, fun time and time for your kids/significant other/friends and such.

You may also be able to find a sample of this in a prep for nursing book/planner.

Good luck! Anything is possible if you put your mind to it! :icon_hug:

You can do it!!!! 40 hrs/wk is a lot, but doable. Is there any way you could work a little less? If not, if you really put your mind to it and are very determined, you will triumph! Just keep your head up and keep a positive outlook! Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you are. I work 40 hours a week and I will have school 4 nights a week and clinical Sat and Sun morning.

I have trained myself to wake up at 4:30 every morning the last 3 weeks. So I can wake up and get my 30 minute workout in, study for an hour and then get ready for work. I'm use to it now, it sucks and I miss my sleep but I know I can do it.

I have an hour lunch break at work which I will also use for studying and when it's slow and my boss isn't looking :) I can study too. My family is prepared to see less of me but they understand. It's going to be a long and hard 2 years but I'm determined, excited and ready for the good and the bad. Hang in there and you'll make it.

Please, take heart, you are doing the right thing, it is just hard work at the start, but worth it in the end.!!

To all of you who responded - THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! Just had a momentary freak out. I have to look at it like 3 months at a time. The support here is awsome.
