Can I put my hands in your hair?

Published

Have you ever been asked, "Can I put my hands in your hair?"

At work, the other day, I was asked just that.

A CNA said, "Your hair is so gray and shiny and looks so soft. Can I just put my hands in your hair?"

I said, "No, you cannot put your hands in my hair. I do not know if your hands are clean or where your hands have been!"

She got offended and said, "Well, I don't know if your hair is clean!"

I said, "That's beside the point."

WTH is up with that??

I have had people come up and just start touching my hair, and I wish they would NOT do that!

Anyone else ever been asked that or just have someone come up and start running their hands thru your hair?

How do YOU handle it?

I can't stand it. It makes me sick to think where their hands may have been.

Why do you assume that? Not everyone needs to stare at the instructor during lecture. I used to doodle in class during lectures...I'm talking lots of trees died because of my habit! But I was still listening and my grades were just fine.

Zamboni,

Doodling on paper or notes is not the same is playing beauty shop. This person stated she had asked her to stop and she dosne't. She just keeps letting her do that. I wouldn't but this isn't me. I would be ticked if I had my hair the way I liked it and because someone wanted to play decided to do whatever they pleased. If she likes playing beauty shop that much she should be a hair stylist. Sounds like she really enjoys playing with others hair. The real point is that this person is outta line and not respecting the student who sits in front of her.

My hair growing up was always long and wavy. I remember getting in trouble when I was younger for coming home with my hair styled completely different from how my mom had styled it . When I started chemically straightening it people started telling me it looked like a wig, they always wanted to feel if it was real or not. I can't stand that "heck no you can't put your hands in my hair because you think I'm lying, and its NOT a wig". The only people I want putting thier hands in my hair is my stylist.... and my hubby!

People used to play with my hair without asking when I was in grade school...... I hated it - I used to go to the back of the line just to get away from them, only to have one of them follow me.....

OK doodling and playing beauty shop with someone elses hair is totally different.

It sounds like this person dosen't like having her hair played with. I would be ****** if someone kept playing with my hair during a lecture even after they have been asked to stop. If she likes to do hair that much she can go to school to be a professional hairdresser.

You said she wasn't paying attention in class and will be whining about tests. Now it's because her hair playing was on someone who may not have liked it. That's an awfully far leap to say that person shouldn't be a nurse.

I agree - boundaries need to be considered.

I would NEVER let someone touch my feet - I can't even get a pedicure because I cannot subject some poor person to touching feet . . . I know they do it for a living but it grosses me out and I feel sorry for them. Plus it is such a humbling position to put another person into . ..

As to tattoos . .. . it is kind of hard NOT to look at big colorful tattoos . . .

And I grew up in So. Cal . . . I don't agree with the characterization that there is a homogenization there . . . there are lots of different kind of folks.

Looking at tattoos is one thing - touching is another.....

I admit to touching pregnant women's tummies . . . . . just last week I ran into a friend of my daughter at a grocery store and she is preggers and I patted her tummy.

It is hard not to do that. :clown:

I grew my hair out so I could donate it. Last year in CHM class the guy behind me kept pulling mine out! What the heck? I finally asked him what he was doing with all my hair. He just said he liked it. It was long and shiney. I also must add that he was hispanic and I'm white with dark blond hair. It was neat to him. Different.

One day he got up the nerve to ask what kind of shampoo I used. Poor guy. I think he'd be devistated to see how short and colored it is now. :scrm:

i know the feeling, i hate it when people mess with my hair without my permission...

That's gross. Is your hair long enough to put up? If so, wind it tight in a bun or something so they cant put their hands in your hair.

Wow, I didn't know this would generate so many responses.

But, no, my hair is short. I wear it neck length, in a pageboy type.

It's just long enough to get a curling iron around the ends and turn it under.

So it's not long enough to put up.

But I can't stand it when people feel free enough to put their hands in my hair. It's mostly people of other races......I'm white, too, and I guess they like touching and feeling white people's hair, and I realize it's a compliment, but I still can't stand people's hands in my hair, I have to go home and wash it that night when they do that, and my hair has changed so much that it's more dry now, and the less washing the better. I can go for 2 or 3 days now between shampoos, and if someone starts touching my hair I feel like I must shampoo it as soon as possible.

You don't know where their hands have been, have they washed after they used the bathroom, have they been scratching something, or picking their nose, or what they have been doing!!!

It just grosses me out.

I watch people at my job, as I have the opportunity, to see who washes their hands. You'd be surprised what you don't HEAR when someone goes to the bathroom.

Where we work, the staff's bathroom is adjacent to my medication room, and I can "hear" if those people have used the lavatory or not!!!!!

I also hate when people put their hands on me, really, for any reason. I also have people wish that they can touch my hair, and I growl like a lion and tell them "He!! No". It is rude, inappropriate and inconsiderate.

Years ago, when I was an aide, there was another aide that actually wanted to squeeze a pimple on my friend's face. That earned her a slap in hers.

hell yeah, anyone can touch my hair.

but there'd better be an accompanying massage.

i go home covered w/nasty germs and shower/wash hair immediately.

may as well try to get a massage out of the deal.

what can i say....i'm easy.
