Can I just vent?

Ugh. I am so frustrated with the lecture part of school right now.

We had another test, and I missed passing by 2 STINKIN' POINTS. And 2 of the questions I missed, were "stupid" questions. We do a test review immediatly after the test, and I KNEW that I got those 2 questions wrong AND I knew the information before hand. SIGH. I'm still passing, (which is better than last semester when I was just NOT passing and I wound up passing only because if your final grade is .5 or higher they raise it) but with not as much of a comfort zone as I'd like. Did I mention how much I hate NCLEX questions? And yes, to answer your questions I DO HAVE a review book, the Prentice-Hall one.

Add to the fact that we switched lecture teachers, and I'm not real happy with how this one lectures. She goes all over the place, the powerpoints don't match whatever notes are online (like they help anyhow- they're just an outline and I have to dig in the book to get more info)

Beyond that though I kind of like clinicals. I'm in Peds right now, and it's kind of fun. Boring b/c we aren't really allowed to pass meds or anything (like I'd want to be putting meds in a G-tube when we haven't even learned how to do that yet). We do assessments, and look at charts. The thing that's saving me is the fact that we've only got a couple of floor days, the rest of the time is observation- like PICU, NICU, School Nurse etc.......

And stuff is starting to "click". I'm beginning to understand how labs, s&s and diesease processes all work together. So I don't really want to quit. I just want to quit being frustrated.

And I'm annoyed b/c I might miss clinical tomorrow. I have some sort of URI- a real mild cold. But I'm not really sure that I want to hang out on a Heme-Onc floor with kids tomorrow if I've got a URI (thought it was allergies, but now I feel lousy enough that I think it is a cold)

Maybe I just need a nap and I need to put the concept map down LOL.

you sound frustrated. Hang in there, it gets better after nursing school.

Ask your clinical instructor about the cold and Hem/onc floor - maybe they can find you another place for the day.

Hope you feel better after a nap. It is ok to vent here. Lots of people do. When you start to get down and feel frustrated, give a thought to all of those students who would give an arm and two legs to trade places with you! As not perfect as the situation is, you still are in nursing school and progressing. That is what is important. Good luck with improving your test taking strategies. Sounds like you need to slow down a little or check your answers when you finish.

Join the club :) Some teachers will be more of a delight than others. I'm glad you're passing (ahem, light at the end of the tunnel ahem). Eat some chocolate, do something fun, just take a break from stressing about school.
