I am so sorry to hear of your loss Karo:kiss
Your place of employment may have been in need, but where was the compassion??? They should have NEVER called you!!! PERIOD:nono:
I would be very tempted to give them a piece of my mind...and take no excuses from them!!
When our floor has a nurse that is out due to vacation or death they get "red lined" on the schedule, in which a red marker line is drawn through that week beside of their name which means "don't you dare call me at this time". Because when someone has asked off for a funeral it doesn't always get around to everyone that happened on that first day.
But this has been VERY effective for us
Hugs to you Karo, I am so sorry for the loss of your Grandpa. I am also sorry that the idiots you work for had the nerve to call you, not to let you know how sorry they were, but to come to work! That is some serious nerve! Please let us know if we can do anything here for you even if just to lend an ear or give ya a good ol cyber hug and kiss!:kiss
I think this is abominable behavior!
Unless you work on a unit where everybody is a temp, people know their coworkers, and what is going on in their lives. Word of a family tradgedy spreads FAST in my hospital and on my unit.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather, and I hope your Grandma is doing okay.
I'd be looking for another job.

My grandfather died unexpectedly Thursday. My grandmother was out of town, and I was notified at work. I left work to go find my grandmother and tend to all the funeral things for her, as I knew she would be too freaked out to do so. (And I was right, all she said was "You decide, Sissy.")
I called my boss to tell her I was leaving work Thursday. Called her again Friday to call in for today Monday, since the funeral was today. Called again Friday afternoon to make sure they got the message off of voicemail.
THE VERY SAME staffing person I talked to every time called me on my cell phone today asking me to come to work this afternoon???!!
Hello, wouldn't you think "off for funeral leave" by my name would give her a clue? It was bad enough they are too cheap to send a flower or even a freakin' card, but to call me to work??????
I had left my purse on a chair in the funeral home, and my sister answered my ringing phone and told them our grandfather's funeral was in half an hour and not to expect me to work today AT ALL!!!!!!!!
I am ready to go wait tables and tell them to kiss my foot!!!!!!
