Hey all! I wanted to created this thread in hopes of finding other Grand Canyon University (GCU) Spring 2014 hopefuls!! I am about to apply for the Fast-track 16 month BSN as a second degree student, either at Scottsdale Healthcare or GCU campus. The deadline for applications are September 15th, 2013... just a couple months away. If you are applying or thinking of applying, please join in and lets get this thread started! :) :geek: :nurse:

Good luck!

FYI

I'm not sure that this applies to all locations, but SHC program starts on Monday Jan 6th in case anyone wanted to plan in advance. I just spoke with them this morning. We should receive our schedules approx 8 weeks before classes start (so early-mid November).

Yay! You found it :)

Congrats you guys. I'm applying in Jan for St. Joes fast track. I haven't seen anyone doing St. Joes????

Hi Ryleea1 -

St. Joes currently only has Summer and Fall start dates :-)

I am fast track at main!

I work as a per diem CNA for a home health agency, but that is only a couple hours a week if that so I don't consider that working :)

But I am married with two kids so that is a full time job in itself :) haha love them!

I am so excited! I feel like I need to start buying stuff so that I don't have to buy everything all at once!

Hey:) congrats on getting in! Your the only person on here I know of that is also going to main, what was your gpa and teas score?

Hey guys, curiosity kicking in, those gpa that you guys are posting, is it cumulative or just from the pre-req?

I'm in at SHC! :) I am pretty sure I will not be working while in school, I am so excited I can't wait to start!! :) Anyone know what our schedule may or may not look like? I know it used to be 8 week courses but they changed to full semester length classes now. I had an opportunity to stop by and see where the classes will be at in SHC, its almost like a dedicated building (still under construction when I peeped in) just for GCU classes. Time to shop for scrubs!

Congrats Ablazing! Andiisme is also accepted at SHC and I *think* she currently has a friend in the program, so hopefully she will chime in re: schedule :-)

I can't speak for everyone, but the GPA I posted was based on my total pre-reqs, i.e. science/math/english etc. They also calculate a separate science GPA and I believe that is factored into the decision-making progress, but not sure how much compared to overall pre-req GPA.

Hey! Welcome to the future SHC Spring crew! Lol

As MrsBond said I did do a bit of research for schedules. Read back a couple pages for where the info came from and more details if you like. But to keep it simple for ya here's the gist so far from what I've gathered:

Unless they change it after realizing it's not working or something from the current Fall cohort (which are the first of the 16 month program vs the previous 20 month setup)...

Classes are 16 weeks long. No longer the 8 week program. Level 1 (first 16 week semester) this past fall consisted of 4 classes at a time, however it was my understanding from Toy85 that only two of the classes had exams/finals and so far he/she said the workload was quite manageable. Level 2 (which would begin in May ish, second 16 week block) drops to only 2 classes, but with the addition of clinicals into the schedule.

Level 1 schedule seems to be Mon-Thurs classes. Boswell this fall had two groups, A went 9-3 each day & B went 10-4. Seems that SHC had similar hours but no report of two groups. However my info was from someone not currently in that cohort (she started in Summer but heard about Fall starter's schedules, reporting that she heard Mon-Thurs 8-4).

No clinicals for the first Level though at all. (Again UNLESS they make revisions based on things that didn't go well with the Fall group serving as pilot cohort for the new 16 month)

& yes the building for SHC nursing program classes is the same as what our hospital uses for HR and some of our orientations and such. It's on the corner at the light, across from the hospital. Walk in the main doors which face the parking lot and it's to the right. Can't miss it.

I spoke with them this morning to find out the start date is jan 6th & they said we'll receive schedules 8 weeks prior to start date approximately. I will prolly give it a week or so and see if I can squeeze out any additional info regarding the schedule. If so I'll post it here :)

Ditto. My posted was my overall (however with the exception of one additional math class, my classes were all JUST pre reqs for GCU as it's been my Plan A). The science also weighs in and I know mine wasn't great. Barely over the 3.0 mark thanks to a bad chem grade and retaking A&P I.
