I was once called the nurse-beautician (nurse practitioner).

I'm a student, and on the Mother/Baby Rotation I had a pt and her husband crack jokes about my instructor and I being nurse/beauticians while we were preping her for her C-section.

:lol2:

We all got a kick out of it, it was just a joke and her physician wanted everything bald!

I had a psych pt call me "Beautiful nurse"... I was quite flattered until a few minutes later she called me a "hussy". Oh well.. you win some, you lose some.

I don't know whether to laugh or be horrified.

As a future male nurse, I wonder what they'll call me: "Doctor"? "Orderly"? "Janitor"? "Al Gore"?(I kind of resemble him). One can only imagine...

My friend has had his patients call him "the bellhop".

I'm here to help :)

"oh look! Its the Candy Striper again!" A older bipolar lady making fun of me because I was 22 and working as an undergrad at a psych. hospital. It was actually pretty funny because she was just joking and the way she said it. (and the fact that there havent been candy stripers in years- I had to go home and ask my mom what a Candy Striper was, lol)

A few times pt's or pt's families have tried to joke about the nurses being their personal maid...I definately set them straight on that one. I personally dont think its a joke.

Don't worry, that woman will get hers. I've not seen a lot of women in their 40's with small children who weren't mistaken for Grandma instead of Mommy.

I'm 32 and I've had more than one person ask me if I was my baby's grandma...but I'm in Tennessee, anyone with a small baby who isn't 12 or 13 is naturally assumed to be Grandma.

Specializes in Travel Nursing, ICU, tele, etc.

That's one good reason to work ICU. If the patients are well enough to call you anything, they are pretty much too well to be in the ICU. Time to ship them off to the floor!!! hehehe :lol2::lol2::lol2:

Or it might be time for restraints and Haldol!!!

(Just kidding.....for the most part!!!)

My pt's call light was on and to be honest, i was at the breaking point with him and his silly requests as if we were the Hilton or something...but this just blew me away. The front desk eventually answered his light through the intercom and asked what he needed. My pt proceeded to answer, "Send in my woman". Yeah, thats right...his woman :angryfire

I will predict that it will most often be "Doctor." Even if you are wearing a 2-inch-high, bright-red, bold print "RN" and just introduced yourself as the nurse 30 seconds ago.

Ack. This is why I hate People. Not people, but People.

:angryfire

Thanks. I wanted to say this, but felt too beaten down by people (pts. and mgmt.) to bother.

Ouch... I'm 44 with 2-year-old twins. So far, nobody has insinuated that I was the grandmother... (she's 66, by the way).

But to get back to the subject, I haven't been called anything but "nurse" yet on the job - which doesn't mean that I haven't been insulted in other ways by a few patients :o

From a stretcher in the ER acute beds "STEWARDESS! HEY STEWARDESS"

:rotfl: I have had that one! The pt added "this is sure a long flight". I said, yes it is..........very long.
