Call offs

Published

How many calls offs are you allowed in a rolling calendar year .. We have 4 and we get a verbal at 5 and level 1 at 6 . they don't care if a family member is very ill and you call off it still counts , no excuses , if your son is sick in the hospital they don't care . What bothers me is we have a supervisor just takes her name off the schedule if something comes up with her family so she never has call ins, I on the other hand had a 6 year old get sick and had to call off ,they wouldn't take my name off the schedule like the supervisor would do hers . She refused to take my name off so I wouldn't get counted as a call in ... But if it was her she would just remove her name . I am now at a level 1 with a nasty write up .... And I guess that's how it is , thanks for letting me vent ... I can't do anything about it oh and im a widow

God I really, really hate that employees are treated this way. It's a terrible shame. 4 per year isn't close to enough for a widow with a small child.

So if you miss a punch in because you forgot your badge and still complete a missed punch form, is that considered an occurrence??

Except the DOL kinds frowns on that!

Ah, but if you're not clocked in they can say you're not officially working. And then they could charge you with a HIPAA violation, because you are accessing patient charts while off the clock. Working while not clocked in could turn into a real headache if someone wanted to get nasty about it.

Thankfully my workplace is pretty chill about it. We clock in and out on computer workstations. If we miss a punch we can just call or email staffing and they fix it for us.

In the hospital I had 8. If you called in on a Monday or a Friday they would "tap" you to let you know they were watching you for a pattern. AND 2 or 3 days in a row were 1 episode. I was never written up or even close, so I don't know if there was a formal attendance policy.

I now work at a high school. I have practically nothing- 4? 6? But I called in (New Yorkers say "call in" as in "call in sick". I think we are the only ones that do that) Friday because my mom was in the hospital, and I had called in 2 weeks before because I had DIARRHEA, and they could NOT have been nicer.

Nope in Connecticut we say we called in or will call in sick too

Am i the only person that thinks 7 call offs in A YEAR.....365 DAYS....for a human being that gets sick, has children, hospital admission, family deaths, etc. Is NOT ALOT???!!!! Jesus Christ....we are humans not robots. I myself am a single parent of a 4 and 6 year old....theyre practically germ magnets and incubators at that age so they're bound to get sick or break a bone or two....aind we all know whatever one gets....the other is bound to get also. I also live in the NE, where it's cold as ever so im bound to get sick too. Smh I think that's bs....termination after 7 call ins....in a years time. Thats less than 1 day a MONTH. Maybe it's just me.

Yup I've got 5, 4 of whom are in school. A couple years ago I had four sick days in 1.5 weeks, when I got the flu and then my middle daughter did. (At least we got our shots...otherwise the flu knocks me down for a good 2 weeks.) Did I love missing work of course not, but I was not going to leave when my girl -- a very strong, fit 8 yr old -- was literally begging "Mama don't leave me!"

And it ****** me off when others come in sick. I don't want what they have! And I have gotten what they had.

I have 2 weeks of sick time, 1 week of OPA (other personal time), 4-5 personal holidays (depends on the year), and 2 weeks vacation.

The nice thing about OPA is that it is supposed to be for things that cannot be scheduled outside of work but it is not sick time, things like dentist appointments, school plays, going to the DMV etc. Personal holidays are exactly what is sounds like, you determine when you want a holiday and put it on the calendar. The only bad thing is you do have to ask your manager for permission to use OPA unlike sick time or personal holidays.
