California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

U.S.A. California

2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

Gem & Jyaa,

I'm so sorry you two! You will find something else so don't lose hope! You'll get something that you wanted even more, and it'll be worth the long wait! One of you mentioned that you were worried about the time since graduation. I looked into that alot since I was worried about it too, but only a few schools made it a criteria. They know that there are a ton of new grads that are trying to get hired but it's taking longer than expected.

Chemincal,

Nope, I didn't get a call from Southwest yet, which I'm honestly shocked about. I really thought I would be offered the job. But now that it's been awhile I'm starting to think they maybe wont offer it to me. Regardless, I would still turn it down, so in the long run I guess it doesn't really matter. I am thrilled that I'm starting in the SICU/Trauma unit at UCSD. It's an excellent hospital and I'm sure it'll be a very challenging floor!

This should encourage you, I was an internal candidate and was not hired. They told me they interviewed 30 for 12 spots which is a cut back from the 20 spots they had for the March 2010 cohort. Budget cuts. Try again in December if your still looking!!

Chemincal thanks for the encouragement that is so crazy that you were internal and didn't get hired. Also, we received different information, we were told 15 were interviewed and 10 spots were opened. Anyway, I'm hanging in there and hopefully I'll get to vlounteer while I still apply.

has anyone heard from UCSD yet???

i'm joining in on this thread. i just graduate a few weeks ago from CSULB and i'm mainly concentrating on studying for NCLEX, but i'm also job hunting.

so far i've turned in applications to Stanford Hospital (rejected) and the VA in San Francisco for NorCal and Fountain Valley Regional and Torrance Memorial in SoCal. I'm also talking to a USAF recruiter that's walking me through the commissioning process, but from what I've researched the timeline takes a while. I need a job in the meantime.

Hey er1c,

When you say you applied to the VA in San Francisco, did you apply to a New Grad program there?

Pediatric ICU was the unit that called me. When I talked to HR she said whatever you put down for your first choice would be the unit they would forward your application on to. Which unit did you apply to? Thank you! I am sure they will be calling you soon! Keep us posted!

I applied for cardiac/organ transplant. Still haven't heard anything either way.

I applied at Loma Linda Pediatrict Acute Care has anyone heard from that department yet?

I talked to the HR lady and she said the only two units from Loma Linda that have made calls are Acute Care and PICU

What the heck, I talked to her yesterday and she said the only 2 units that have made phone calls were NICU and PICU. So I guess I will wait and hope they call.

Maybe she was mistaken because NICU isn't even accepting applications for Loma Linda.
