  1. Hey er1c, When you say you applied to the VA in San Francisco, did you apply to a New Grad program there?
  2. I'm guessing it would be the same questions as I had, so it was more of an HR interview, not very medical/RN related. There were 3 questions, if I remember correctly, and lasted no more than 6-8 minutes in total. The gentleman asked: what makes you a unique candidate, why did you choose Stanford, and for the life of me I can't remember the 3rd. Sorry. But those were the 'bigger' questions that stuck in my head. Hope this helps!
  3. I'm with you, I had a short phone interview in the beginning of this month and haven't heard back since. I'm not banking on anything developing with it. I thought I did remember him saying, however, that candidates not chosen would be informed by email. So, we'll see if anything develops.
  4. I'm going to be another person to add to the list confirming this "trick" works. I've been trying this everyday, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day just to see if anything changed, and I just found out today that I passed!!! :)
  5. I just wanted to join company with you all who are still waiting on word from SFSU. Since we're here, have any of you heard about the "quality" of the GMSN program? I have a few friends who go to Samuel Merritt and speak highly of it (the tuition literally being high as well) and I've heard things about UCSF...but I haven't heard much about SFSU. Anybody have input they'd like to share?
  6. First allow me to address your initial questions: 1- How long was the interview? The interview is scheduled for 1 hour, but my interview ran a little long for the faculty member and I worked ourselves into a hearty conversation. At the end I had to do a writing assignment choosing 1 out of 3 topics and creating an essay in 30 minutes. But do not worry, the topics are down to earth and very manageable. 2- Was it a group or single interview? Both? My interview was a single interview with just one faculty member in her office. Very informal and personal. Not having a desk separating us allowed for a more conversational connection and dispelled the dreaded intimidating factor that usually accompanies interviews. 3- Did you interview with one or a few people? As above, it was just her and myself. Simply be yourself and shine through your true passion for the profession. As for the tuition, I also agree that it is very steep. But I have a friend who is in her 4th semester in the Sacramento campus and she is managing finances quite well. It is an investment in your future and from the NCLEX results of last year and from word of mouth, I hear that the Samuel Merritt program is a very good one, preparing its nurses at a top notch level. I did not initially have Samuel Merritt as my first choice, but ever since my interview it has jumped to the forefront. Also, I was able to find some financial aid information and it looks as if it roughly costs $50,000 per year INCLUDING living expenses. Through Stafford Loans and Graduate Plus Loans it appears as if financial aid may be able to fund most, if not all, of the cost. Personally I am working my rear end off to save up as much as I can before the beginning of the semester to shave off some of the loan costs. Hope this helps, and good luck to you all!!!
  7. Does anyone know any information on the "quality" of the SFSU GMSN program, or even the SFSU School of Nursing itself? I have recently been accepted to the Samuel Merritt ELMSN program in Oakland and I have heard many good things about the school. I also saw and was told that last year's Samuel Merritt students scored a perfect 100% in their first attempt at the NCLEX. Also, I should note that I haven't received any acceptance/denial letter from SFSU, but I am merely trying to prepare for the upcoming months and it would be great to have more insight on SFSU should I happen to be accepted and be forced to make a decision. Thank you for any help!
  8. Hey Everyone, I've been accepted to Samuel Merritt this Fall for the ELMSN Case Management track. As for the interview, being that I was interviewed by a faculty member of the Case Management program, I can only tell you the main questions that I was asked. The FNP track may and probably will differ but I think there are some general, yet very important questions. The first is: Why have you chosen nursing and specifically the Case Management program (or FNP program for you all)? Second: Tell me a current issue that is occurring within the nursing profession that you feel strongly about. And third: What are your strengths and weaknesses? (And do give an actual weakness BUT MAKE SURE you stress what it is you are doing to make it right. I believe those weakness answers such as "I am a perfectionist" are very transparent and generic answers and I feel the interviewer will see right through it. But that's just my opinion. I gave an honest weakness and how I am changing, growing, and maturing as an individual to address it. It must have worked for me) Hope this helps and good luck to you all!!!
