California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

Published

2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

Hopeful new grad RN & JYAA,

How did your interviews go? I guess by the end of this week beginning of next wk they will be calling ppl if they haven't already, right?

It went great! I'm pretty sure they will offer me the job, only... I accepted a position at UCSD in the SICU. So, good luck to you! I think they are going to do a great job training and building you up as a new grad. Let me know when you hear.

One of my classmates just got hired at UCSD, SICU. And another is in her 3rd week at Loma Linda ICU as well.

haha... that's me! :) I have to be your classmate because I got the spot at UCSD in the SICU. They are still waiting for approval to hopefully hire 2-4 total. I know who who are talking about for Loma Linda too. hehe Message me . :yeah:

When did you have your interview for UCSD? I received an email Friday stating my application was sent to the hiring managers but that's for PCU. I'm like oh no what will I do if they call me too, I know what I will do though so its not really a tough decision at least I hope it isn't.

All I know is that all the units are different. So I have heard of others still getting forwarded to units (not my own). So... you are still in the running. I don't know how long the process will be. SICU is starting in early June so they had to bump up the process, but other units may still be starting in July (or later June). In general, the process was extremely fast for me!

I was afraid of the same decision you may face now. What if the Murrieta one calls first... well, I still think it's a great job and it's a job! Let me know. :) How do we send private messages?

Interesting! The recruiter told me the apps just got sent to hiring managers last Wednesday so they haven't really made calls yet (for Loma Linda) and then for UCSD, there's like a 1-2 week quiet period of just looking over applicants and they told me they're conducting interviews late May/early June. Fingers crossed I hear something from any of them!

All the UCSD units are different! So keep your hopes up. Some are starting earlier than others (June vs July). I think most are still at the "forwarding to manager" stage. Also, if you are talking about Loma Linda for Pediatrics then... they are still forwarding/interviewing I think. For their normal medical center they have hired for at least ICU. I'd call the HR at either place to ask them more specifically about the units you applied to. That'll give you a much more accurate picture than on here. Good luck to you!

I think my interview went well, but I don't know. I always have mixed feelings about interviews so I can't really tell.

Hopeful New Grad RN:

I'm just wondering how you are so sure they are going to offer you a job? I'm sure you did great but I wish I was sure like u are, lol. Is there anything they said that makes you know you got the job? Maybe you can ease my anxiety a bit : )

Don't loose confidence in your ability to be a great nurse. You already wow'd them and got an interview! They were going to hire 7-10 and only interviewed 15... so the odds are really good. Also there are people like me who are going to have to turn down the job offer, which means more spots open! :) They pretty much were just very responsive verbally and non-verbally about me being a good fit for the program. I know that I have a strong resume and I was very very very prepared for all the questions they asked. So, I just feel like it went well and they saw that. And remember if for some reason it doesn't work out, then you are going to find a great job somewhere else. Just keep working hard to market yourself! And stay confident. And don't give up, because you will find a job and then the waiting will have paid off.

I absolutely agree. I feel as though I did well too. They would say good answer or nod their head, say okay or whatever else. The verbal and non-verbal actions left me confident.

Not sure if anyone applied to the Kaweah Delta Critical Care Internship, but I just got a call from HR today. I had a short phone interview with them and was told that calls for interviews will be next week.

hey all, just letting everyone know that there are new grad residencies posted on the Stanford website for both Stanford and Lucile Packard. The downside is that you can't have any paid RN work prior to the start date (boo, i don't qualify).

Now seriously, with those restrictions, how is one supposed to be able to get acute care training? Many of the new grad programs have some type of, dare I use the term, "discriminating" phrase. I have seen restrictions from "can't have graduated prior to xxxx", "must have graduated no earlier than", " can't have had any paid RN work". Why is it acceptable to discriminate against those who graduated during a hiring freeze time? This is very unfortunate and makes me wonder when those who have been unable to get a job in acute care because of factors such as those will ever be able to get that elusive acute care experience.
