California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

CONGRATS!!!Which hospital and what type of unit?

Hey Emma, thanks for the advice. I just typed in "Employement Agency California" and it sent me to ca.gov.

If anyone wants to check it out got to caljobs.ca.gov. They have a bunch of listings on their site, you just need to register.

The agency is in Texas but they work with many medical facilities nation wide:

Martin Fletcher in Irving, Texas is the one that helped me out to find a job in CA. Don't send them a resume if you're not prepared to move. They will let you know what they have available and what state they have opportunites at.

I took a nap and remembered about all of you! :D Good luck girls! Remember to put your 1st year in and then you can swim freely in the water!

:BDCk:My job will be in northern California! :D

How funny. I had submitted my resume on yahoo hot jobs when I first started looking for work and Martin Fletcher called me too. The only thing was that they said they mainly placed nurses with previous experience and not new grads. Emmanewgrad did you have any prior experience before getting your RN? CNA? LVN? Maybe that's what helped you get your job in the first place.

HEY HEY!!!!!!!!!!!! I have good and bad news girls and guys, I emailed the agency to thank my agent for assisting me in this process and asked him if I could reference his name in here. His reply was that unfortunatly there are no hospitals hiring at this time, freezing jobs everywhere :( that I have been the first hired in the last 7 months and probably the last in the next unforseen months!!!!!!!!!!!! It breaks my heart girls, it truly does. I know it's deficult but don't give up and keep sending your applications into hiring agencies in State or out. There is a website http://faxzero.com/ where you can fax 2 forms for free per day or 1.99 per page after that. I faxed a lot of apllications to this date (like > 60) since April/2009.

Like I mentioned, keep sending your cover letter and resume in and call them to verify they received your fax (just to show interest) also, don't narrow your opportunities at this time, be open to any possibility. get ACLS and PALS license ASAP. Also, look into obtaining your BSN ASAP as many jobs are prefferring BSN over ADN during hiring. I'm looking into online classes at UCLA (or other universities) to obtain my BSN, also will try to obtain Forensic Nursing license within this coming year as well as my ACLS and PALS. Too many things to do but excited for these new challenges that lay ahead of me.

May God Bless each and everyone of you and pray you find employment within the medical field.

Love, Emma

I was making $35/hr at a snf in oakland

35/hr in a snf?!!! hmmm!!!!

Specializes in Med-Surg, & ED.

I get bunch of emails from agencies and this place in TX needs a labor and delivery nurse with 2 yrs experience in that dept and BSN; paying offer is 114,000/yr!!!! I am for sure going to sign up for a RN-BSN online program!

Has anyone had any recent luck on the job search? I feel like there are no new grad RN programs right now. The next batch of them won't start until the Fall or the beginning of next year. Even RN level I positions are hard to come by these past few days/weeks. Most hospital postings are looking for at least a RN level II. :sniff:

35/hr in a snf?!!! hmmm!!!!

Living an hour away from Oakland, I can vouch for 35/hr snf for LVNs. More for RN.

Yup, I know someone who makes this much, maybe a little bit more... but it's in Oakland with more patient load.

Most SNFs in other areas start new grads at $30/hour.

I have been working at SNF in for almost a year and I do make $35/hr but I feel like I haven't fulfilled what I went to school for. I have a Bachlor's Degree and still can't find a job in a hospital. Does anyone know if this counts as experience? If not does anyone know if there any new grad programs in Walnut Creek, Antioch, and Pittsburg area.
