  1. Wow. Really?? I thought that CHOC was a great place for nursing. With them being Magnet status and all. What units did these nurses work in?
  2. For those who had their interview w/ CHOC already, how was it? Details would sure help. Thanks.
  3. HireMe, I would like a copy of this list as well. Also, did you have a difficult time even finding a job in Nevada? It'll be a year in December since I graduated from nursing school and I still haven't found anything in California. I'm thinking I should hold out until the end of the year but then again I probably should start looking elsewhere for a job- even if it means moving out of state. I was interested in Washington, Nevada, and even Texas. Anyone else have any ideas, leads, or info? Thanks!!
  4. I feel the same way at this point. As one of my classmates put it New Grad RN is the new scarlet letter.
  5. I wonder if recruiters look at the first couple of applications and discard the rest. Sometimes I feel like they look at the most earliest applicants and forget everybody else.
  6. Hi traveler2bee. Seems like anywhere you go nowadays, the situation has been the same. It's been difficult for me to find a hospital job and I graduated in December 2008. I was told by a nurse manager at a hospital I didn't get hired at here in NorCal that I should try my luck in southern California, Nevada, and Washington. And yet all my applications and efforts at applying to places in southern California have not resulted in any calls or interviews (except for one which didn't pan out either). I heard the Bay Area was saturated with RNs and new grads but I honestly didn't think it was going to be that hard and ended up moving here anyways because of my husband. Now I have to deal with reality. As for the nursing shortage, it will be there- especially in the coming years. It's just not evident right now. With the economy the way it is at the moment, people who would have otherwise retired are hanging onto their jobs; some of them have spouses who are unemployed and that leaves them as the bread winner; and because of budget constraints, hospitals can't hire as much as they like. All in all, I think that you should still pursue nursing and finish your degree. I know I sometimes doubt my choice because I am still unemployed as a RN, but I know that there is still hope for me. I plan on volunteering at my local hospital and hopefully the exposure will at least help me when applying for jobs. I have even tried skilled-nursing facilities and that in and of itself, is a challenge. Nobody seems to be hiring. I understand your concern with debt and money and I'm on the same boat as you are. With private loans, you can defer them for up to six months if you are unemployed. Unfortunately, any loans from the government can only be deferred for six months if you have been actively seeking a job and have been enrolled at a job placement agency. I also think you can defer them if you only have a part-time job and can't afford to pay the loans on your current salary. (But don't quote me on that.) That means by the end of this month, I'll have to repay my Federal Stafford loans. If nothing else comes up soon, I will have to look for a job other than nursing to help pay the bills. I was hoping that would not be the case since my stubborn side feels like I'm going backwards and not forwards. But in the end, you got to do what you got to do. Good luck with your studies and keep moving!
  7. Hi Oranges3420. I was wondering if there was some way to contact you and ask you more about your SNF job. I didn't know to how to send a private message. I think I need to at least make 15 posts before I can PM somebody.
  8. Has anyone had any recent luck on the job search? I feel like there are no new grad RN programs right now. The next batch of them won't start until the Fall or the beginning of next year. Even RN level I positions are hard to come by these past few days/weeks. Most hospital postings are looking for at least a RN level II.
  9. How funny. I had submitted my resume on yahoo hot jobs when I first started looking for work and Martin Fletcher called me too. The only thing was that they said they mainly placed nurses with previous experience and not new grads. Emmanewgrad did you have any prior experience before getting your RN? CNA? LVN? Maybe that's what helped you get your job in the first place.
  10. Question for you 4given24. Do you know if there is a listing for facilities catering to Northern California? A lot of the facilities on the CalOptima list are located in Southern California. I was hoping to start looking around the bay area first. Thanks!! If anyone else has any suggestions/ideas, please feel free to share.
  11. I noticed that too. A few of the RN I/New Grad positions are requiring that you work in a similar setting for what you are applying to. That totally eliminates me right there. I did my preceptorship in public health.
  12. Has anyone who applied to UC Davis received a call or e-mail back from them? I applied to their previous job postings and was wondering if it would be bad to be apply for their most recent one. What do you think?
  13. I know this thread is for RN new grad programs but I was wondering if anybody knew an easy way of getting listings for SNFs, LTCs, etc. I still plan on applying to hospitals but in the case that I don't get anywhere anytime soon, I was going to look into my other options. I live in northern California but I am willing to relocate anywhere else in California if it means having a job and getting experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
