California's 2011 New Grad Program

U.S.A. California

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

I haven't heard anything, nor has my status changed for the positions at Highland. I'd love to hear what you found out RNnicu42!

I left HR a message today. Ill post if I hear back from them.

Specializes in NICU, Psych.
I applied too and I havent heard anything either. My status is the same as it was when I first applied. I will call HR today.

Thanks RNnicu42 for calling. I called about 3 weeks ago but the lady that I spoke with couldnt give me any answers.

I spoke to a classmate today who took an NRP class with a new grad from USF who had an interview with them...

That person had an interview with Highland? Do you happen to know when they interviewed?

I had applied to the new grad program at UCSD earlier in summer and never got a call like many of us but noticed they weren't interviewing in the oncology department even though it was initial listed as a department with openings for new grad. I figured the 43 internals who applied for the 40 positions all got the jobs. Then I got a call last week for an interview Friday, and Monday a call offering me a job in oncology at Thornton. I guess you never know in this crazy job hunt. They said they considered the work I had been doing at a hospital since I graduated last year so anything you can do while you are waiting for that "perfect" job counts. Good Luck to everyone out there and thanks for the support on this site. Don't give up hope.....

Congratulations, persistancepays! I just checked my job application status at UCSD and I just noticed that IMU was still open...crossing my fingers, thanks for sharing with us the great news! Best of luck to you!!!

My friend wasn't sure, but said it sounded recent.

not reply.

It basically means that they are barely reviewing the applications. Good luck to those who applied.

So I am just curious for all how got hired/applied: you guys all BSN students? Where did you graduate from, I am wondering if it has any impact on where you get hired?

Just curious to see the new grads and how Yall are handling the current hiring freeze. I will be applying to BSN schools this fall and would like to know how the job market is competitive now.(hopefully won't be when I graduate, but I bet thats what you all said too lol)

I graduated from CSUSM in May 2010, took boards in Sept, passed, and found my initial employment, ( new grad position ) in San Bernardino. That was after about 30 interviews. I wouldn't have gotten my foot in the door without my BSN and two externships in oncology at a local hospital. Even with that I got one rejection after another. Now after 8 months I reapplied to Scripps, and UCSD in San Diego County. Didn't get an interview at Scripps but got an interview and hired at UCSD in oncology, I also noticed my application for med/surg was also referred to hiring department. Then got a call from Sharp, connection through a friend, for an interview but I'm great where I'm at. Luckily it took just over a year to land my "dream job" at UCSD where I plan to stay.

Good luck on your plans, I would definitely suggest a BSN if you can afford it and definitely try to get internships and externships in places where you'd like to work. Hospitals like to hire students who have worked there. It's all about connections.....
