California's 2011 New Grad Program

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

TeleNurse22,

I got the same call and picked 2 very different units so we are not competing for the same jobs - no worries :) but does this mean anything? I have yet to hear from the dept. managers. Did you get an interview?

I just read a little further back in this post and AZWildcatRN it looks like you and I are applying for the same spots (fingers crossed we both get them!) Did you apply to the Mother/Baby new grad position at St. Joseph too? Have you heard anything from either one about an interview?

i had an interview with SJCH yesterday for NICU. got called two weeks ago

Oh how wonderful! I hope that you will get the job!

hey has anyone had calls for an interview for those who applied to San Joaquin? My phone is still lonely over here.

Received a call from them a week or 2 ago and interviewed w SJCH on the 11th for NICU.

They are taking 30 new grads total and 3/5 interviewed for NICU. Hoping to hear from them by the end of the week.

I did apply for the Mother/Baby new grad position at St. Joseph but I did not get the position. I contacted the nurse manager for that unit and she informed me that they were going to interview internal employees first and that if they did not select anyone from that pool then they would move to external applicants. I received a rejection email last week so I am assuming that they selected an internal applicant. I spoke to the nurse recruiter at Fountain Valley a couple days ago regarding my unit choices so maybe it may take a few days for the nurse manager to review the resumes and call for interviews.

Thanks AZWildcatRN, I haven't received an email, but I haven't heard anything either regarding the St. Joe's position :( Lets hope we get called for Fountain Valley. Keep hope alive!

Well if you didnt receive an email, hopefully your still in the running. I am praying that I get a phone call from Fountain Valley, my passion is to work in this specialty and I would love to work on either L&D or Postpartum. Keep me posted if you receive any phone calls or emails and I will do the same. :)

I just emailed the manager at St. Joe so I'm curious to see what she says. I also am totally focused on postpartum and L&D. Someday I hope to be a CNM and IBCLC (I might do this in the fall if no RN jobs work out). I will definitely keep you posted and thanks for doing the same.

We are totally singing the same song! I want to be a CNM also! I actually wanted to work as an RN for about 2 years before going back to school but because I still dont have a job Im not sure what my plans are right now.

Hope it is good news. Good Luck!

What units did you guys choose for UCSD? And did you really have your heart set on that/those units? Or did you apply to them all?

I applied to IMU, PCU which are the ones I have experience in through internships/externships and other hospital experience, and I also applied to the birth center even though my experience there is limited. All I have my heart set on it trying to get a job at UCSD.
