California's 2011 New Grad Program

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

Specializes in NICU, Psych.
If you look at posts from last years group that applied, the applications were due around the same time, they notified people of forwarding applications to departments by the 2nd-3rd week in May, interviewed by the 3rd-4th week in May and hired by the end of May, beginning June.

I have a friend who was already hired into this next new grad program for NICU, don't ask me how, she just knows the right people, but she said the new grad program for her starts the 3rd week in June.

Hearing that is great news. I have applied to other new grad programs and the wait time to here something back is much longer than 2-3 weeks, so Im happy to hear that they will possibly notify us in a few weeks wether or not our information has been forwarded to the specified departments and if we have been offered a job by end the May. I understand that this is just preliminary but it is still positive news.

Did anyone notice that as of today (Sat.) if you go to UCSD the don't list ANY of the new grad positions anymore. It's suppose to be open till Tuesday..so does that mean they cut it off early or they decided not to have those new grad positions??? They always keep us guessing...

This is why I don't typically get discouraged and keep applying to these things, but I stay up night before and constantly ping refresh until the posting shows up. I bet they read the first ones and dont even read the apps after a few hundred.

nothing heard yet either

So I gues UCSD decided to change their minds again...They re-posted the new grad positions but I think they are still supposed to close tomorrow as previosly stated on the new grad applications. They just have us keep on guessing.

I saw that, makes you wonder if they didn't like any of the appplications that were already submitted....

Hey everyone, I graduate in August this year and I was wondering what hospitals have new graduate positions opening around that time. It seems as if most of the start dates are in early August, so I guess I am wondering when the next round of applications is. Thanks!!

Has anyone heard from UC Davis regarding the birthing center position. My status says that they have called applicants for interviews but I have not gotten a call. I am hoping they are not done.

Did anyone hear back from St. Vincent yet? Their apps ended on april 29th and wondering if they started calling ppl... cuz it's already second week of may.

Havent heard anything yet from St. Vincent!

On their website it states: "Note to All RN NEW GRAD Applicants: We are no longer accepting applications for the RN New Grad Program scheduled to start July 11, 2011. We would like to thank everyone who applied. Candidates will be contacted by May 20th regarding the status of their application." (Just saw this yesterday as I was wondering myself.)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Im pretty sure they are done calling people for interviews. I spoke to HR a few weeks ago and she informed me that once the status changes to interview, that means that the nurse manager has selected all the applicants she would like to interview and if you had not been called then your pretty much out of the running. :crying2: If by chance there is not a suitable candidate out of the people they interviewed though, the nurse manager will again select new people to interview for the position.

Did anyone get a call from Fountain Valley Hospital? i just got a call to pick two units I want to work on. =D i know their application is still up.. so apply if you haven't =D. but the man from HR told me he will forward my application to the department manager and will be back with me within a week. yay!! its my first choice
