California's 2011 New Grad Program

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

Good luck to all those applying to UCSD, I join the pack. Also applied the first day and immediately got the email back with the questionnaire. Now it is sit and wait. They are not offering near as many positions as last year and most of the positions seem to be at Hillcrest, but we'll see. Hopefully they are faster than UCLA where the process took over 4 months to get you through.

If I may ask, after you submitted your application, you received an email from UCSD? I also applied the first day but did not get an email. Wonder if that means I'm out already.....

nicrn7, I'm sorry I confused you, I got a questionnaire sent to me through my email right after I sent in my application which I filled in an returned asap. If you're new at this you know not hearing right away means absolutely nothing. When I applied to UCLA it took 4 months for the process and thought I was out of it many times but actually got down to the interview after 4 months. Just hang in there. Which position did you apply for?

Thanks persistancepays. I applied to UCSD during the last round and got the questionnaire emailed to me right away. Because I didn't receive an email this time, I was hoping they weren't emailing questionnaires since there were similar questions in the application.

I applied for SICU, tele, PCU, and IMU. What about you?

I applied to IMU, PCU, and tele since I've had some experience in all of them. This is my third time through UCSD since I graduated last year. The last time I got down to the final three and they were taking one. Since then I went on and completed a new grad program out of the county but have less than 6 months experience at that hospital so I was told to apply to this program. Are you a "new" new grad or have you been looking long?? When I graduated last May, took the boards in September, it took till January to get into a program.

That's interesting that you got an email with the questionnaire. I also applied but did not get an questionnaire emailed to me. I also applied last year to UCSD back when their application system was different and that was when I received the questionnaire through email. When I applied this time, I had filled out the questionnaire which was inlcuded in the online application. I thought that the questionnaire was included in this application this time around because they were the same questions they asked last time.

I graduated in Aug 2010. (Approaching that undesirable year mark.) Like everyone else I've applied to upwards of 100 positions/programs. Had 3 interviews. No offer.

Congratulations on getting so close in the process. Last time my app was forwarded to the manager but no interview. I wish you the best of luck this time around!

freeze15frappe, I completed my new grad program in a different county, (Riverside) not country. I searched for new grad programs from San Francisco to San Diego and ended up there.

Did anyone notice that as of today (Sat.) if you go to UCSD the don't list ANY of the new grad positions anymore. It's suppose to be open till Tuesday..so does that mean they cut it off early or they decided not to have those new grad positions??? They always keep us guessing...

They probably decided to close the application period earlier due to the number of applicants. Mine is just a guess but other hospitals I spoke with told me that when they post a new grad position they usually get hundreds or even thousands of applications in the first 24h that they have to close it down.

I guess that's why it's so hard to get a job these days, too many people competing for few spots!!!!!!!

Yeah they probably closed it because they received too many applications. Well at least they will start reviewing the applications earlier than expected. Good luck to everyone that applied. Hopefully we will here something soon!

If you look at posts from last years group that applied, the applications were due around the same time, they notified people of forwarding applications to departments by the 2nd-3rd week in May, interviewed by the 3rd-4th week in May and hired by the end of May, beginning June.

I have a friend who was already hired into this next new grad program for NICU, don't ask me how, she just knows the right people, but she said the new grad program for her starts the 3rd week in June.
