I'm graduating with my ASN in a year and really reaaaaaally tired of New Orleans. Sure, I'd love to play tourist here but after growing up here, I'm done with being a resident.

I absolutely love northern Cal, Sac-Tahoe area and I'm setting my sites on moving there.

DH is in law enforcement and there are more opportunities for him there as well. He is finishing up a bachelors degree and wanting to possibly purse an MBA or law school. I'm debating going back to finish my biology degree. I like that Sac area has colleges and universities with broad opportunities.

I looked into hiring sections of hospitals and seems to be new grad friendly but I'm not familiar with the pros and cons of various hospitals.

Anyone from that area willing to take me under their wing and educate me on the area more than what I saw as a tourist?

Nursing opportunities, areas to live/avoid, hiring practices, universities for advanced studies... just anything. I'll take any information you can give!

We're planning a trip in December and I could really use some advice on where we can spend time looking at residential areas, etc.

And anyone interested in New Orleans, I got you covered for info!

Sutter here is a wonderful health system. Currently @ Sutter Memorial.

There's Memorial, General, Auburn & Davis. Excellent wages. No Union.

Well, as for the community...

You are 2 hours from EVERYTHING:

Wine, Mountains, Rivers, Forests, Beaches, Deserts, Rafting, Skiing, Hiking, Biking, Kayaking, Fishing, Gambling.

If it weren't for the political climate I would move here in a heartbeat. BETTER than San Diego!

Oh, as for where to live:

Midtown is awesome if you can afford it.

West Sac is okay.

Carmichael/Fair Oaks has less trash and homeless. Higher $$$

Roseville is better but you're getting out in the suburbs.

Folsom gives you the most bang for your buck but 30 min from downtown.

Both north and south Sacramento is Ghetto! Pretty bad crime, gang influence, and homeless that believe that anything left outside is "fair game" for the taking.

Stay away...

Wow - I grew up in that area - havent been back in decades. Graduated from San Juan High School in 1978. What's the area like these days?

Sacramento area is too hot in the summer for me. You might want to check on the weather aspect if you are one who can not tolerate heat.

I LOVE heat. I actually have Raynaud's - heat is a must for me! I can tolerate cold weather with the heat thingies for my gloves and a trip to warm water. Once I warm my hands back up the spasm usually never returns for that outing.

- And yes, the heat in NOLA is ridiculous. The heat down here is HUMID!! At least up in Cali area ya'll get some drier air!

I used to hate the Sacramento Valley, but the longer I stayed, the more I loved it... nowadays, my definition of summer is that it has to be at least 90F...the hot weather blends perfectly with the cool rivers and lakes... and everything is like a drive of an hour or two away... so when I work for 3 straight days I get to enjoy my day offs just driving off to local sceneries...

I'd be happy to answer any question you have about the area! I love Sacramento. I grew up in Carmichael, but currently live in Midtown. I attend law school in Sac & have friends who work at UC Davis Medical Center, Kaiser, Mercy, and Sutter. From what I understand (as a new grad in CA), Sac has the least amount of new grad jobs than any other area in CA... Sutter, CHW, & Kaiser are "new grad friendly," but in reality they are barely opening up positions for new grads. UC Davis has new grad positions, but they're really competitive. Anyway, my point is, unfortunately the new grad job market is Sac is terrible. :/

On the other hand, I'm all about chasing your dreams.. if you can, make it happen!
