California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

what unit are you hoping for?

I'm having mixed feelings. I had always wanted to do critical care, but I don't think I would go into it right away. Telemetry/stepdown, maybe? Although after having my preceptorship in med-surg/oncology unit, I'd consider oncology, too... so many choices!!

LilOnc,

I applied to Community after seeing your post, but all of my applications say "application filed. not hired" under the status. I also got an email saying that they are "continuing the recruitment process." Is it possible that they only waive the 2 year requirement experience on certain units or they wait to see if they don't get experienced applicants for the full 90 days they keep my app. on file?? Maybe things have changed that much since you were hired and now they are like the Bay Area only hiring experienced nurses?? While I want to apply to any open RN position they have a 3 application limit per week so I need to be selective. Thanks for any insight.

I am not sure. I have heard that if is says 2 year exp they will waive it. Just keep applying and also try Kaweah Delta. I know this is totally frustrating but all we can do is apply and keep trying. This whole process is depressing after we worked so hard in school.

Yes. I already applied. They only limit 3 position in a week. Hope they will call me. :crying2:

thanks,

Did you apply for fresno community hosptial online already? Which unit you apply for ? I know they are limit for 3 position at a time.

whereelse did you apply for it? I am from San Francisco. No job opening here. I have no one to talk to.

Thanks,

Don't feel bad...the EXACT thing happened to me when I tried applying to two different positions. *Sigh..**

Lets keep this going.

RNPatty,

how heavily do they require the 3.5 GPA for eligibility for the Cedars Sinai New Grad program???

From everyone I've been talking to, applying to new grad positions or any positions online is futile. Getting your resume past HR and into the dept manager's hands is difficult.

I've been told to create a Hiring Portfolio and physically walk into the depts I want to work at, at the places I want to work, talk to the Dept managers and physically hand them the hiring portfolio. It shows you got guts, determination, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to obtain the job.

Oh, and talk to the managers where you did your preceptorship, even if you didn't like the place, it's still experience. After 1-2 years, you can then go to places you want.

Fountain Valley Hospital is interviewing for their Versant Residency Program. There's not much in Orange County.

I really want to be a Peds nurse, but getting into a peds program is near impossible. Interviewed at CHOC in May for 1 of 2 positions in the CVICU, they interviewed over 100 people for the positions.

ummm...went to cedars sinai open house/interview today. i asked the nurse who interviewed me how many people they were planning to hire.

answer: "we have over 1700 applicants for 50 spots"

super!
