California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

I don't see the UCSF position, where is it listed?

The invitation for the open house was sent out in early May and the deadline to RSVP was May 18.

I'm not sure which other hospitals in LA are hiring new grads.

Does anyone have the recruiter's email at Cedars Sinai? I tried calling about the new grad position two weeks ago but they said it was already full. I am trying really hard to find any new grad positions in the LA area and any help will be greatly appreciated!

yes. thanks.

Actually, I kind like losting hope. I don't think they will hire new grad. I apply several hosptials around san francisco. First, I haven't heard anythings from them. Second, when I called, they told me there are 300-600 applicants. They have rules to sellect the people. I summit my references and transcripts.... still no response.

Can someone help me?

We can't help you because all of us new grads in the Bay Area are faced with the same problem. No one is hiring new grads! Yes, there are a few places like Stanford and San Ramon Valley who are hosting Versant Programs but as you said there are record numbers of applicants and few spots (like 600 applicants for 20 positions). It's really, really hard to find a job with no experience around here. It's not just you. I have a BSN and have been sending out applications since February, I usually get an automatic email denial saying "sorry we are not hiring new grads at this time" or no response at all. I did however get a very quick response ( the next day) when I applied in Nevada, Texas and New Mexico. Unfortunately I can't actually relocate right now but if you can I would definatly look outside of California. Sorry, sad but true

Curious what new grads are doing to keep their skills fresh. I predict things will turn around for new grads in a year or two. I cannot move as my kids are in school in the Bay Area and I own a home. I will be graduating in December. Given that the hospitals near me are not hiring new grads, I was wondering what I can do to keep my skills up until this current environment changes and I can get a local job.

Good Luck all you new grads out there!

Me too I would really like to know, could someone offers some tips to keep our skills updated? I am starting to feel stupid and hopeless in my job search.

Thanks, I understand. I have heard that some hospitals open internally. Did you guys try to look somewhere or just stay and wait? What are your guys plan?

Some of the Tenet hospitals such as San Ramon (I already mentioned that) and John F. Kennedy in Indio are currently seeking new grads. I have a phone interview for JFK tomorrow actually.

Ummmm Garfield Medical Center (AHMC hospital) in Monterey Park, CA will have their new grad program in September but you can give them your application right now. I supposedly have a spot with this hospital, but since I didn't sign anything yet, I'm not accepting that. The other AHMC hospitals may be having theirs around the same time too and you can give your applications now. I have the number to the regional recruiter for all the AHMC hospitals, but you'll have to PM me.

hi,

Would you give me the phone # of recruiters? Do they have any specific requirements in order to be selected?

thanks,

Does anyone know anything about San Gabriel Valley Med. Ctr? or the AHMC hospitals? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Fresno is still hiring!!! 2 1/2-3 hours from the Bay Area. I am from the Bay Area and got a job here! It is a Level 1 hospital with an ER as big as a football field and two helicopter pads. I am so so happy and very scared to leave cause I have heard BAD things about other hospitals. Apply away!!!! Houses are cheap too!!
