I haven't heard anything yet, but I was told by the lady running the interview event that we would hear by the end of this week. She said that for the most part, people are called back for a second interview because on the day of our interviews, we only talked to 1 person from 1 unit, but that if we weren't a fit for that unit, we might interview with another manager. From what I gathered from what she said, it sounds like some people will get a call with a "yes", some a call with a "no", and some a call for another interview. Good luck to everyone!
Thanks for the info, very helpful

From my experiences, its almost impossible to get a job in these Bay Area hospitals. They are hiring for only 1 department here at Washington and I'm sure there are many many many nursing students who have their clinicals here and their preceptorships. I guarantee you they will get 1st dibs on these spots plus internal hires which leaves us folks on the outside being screwed.

    Good luck everybody

I know its hard out there, I am in the same position. I would say if you are interested in a post, apply anyway and be persistant. You already lost the opportunity by thinking its impossible. when you are not giving yourself the chance, no one will.

I don't care if my chances are only 1 in a million, at least there's a chance if there's a new grad program

I am not a big fan of Bakersfield because of the weather mainly, and people are a bit backwards (hill billy types), but the cost of living is very reasonable. I came here to attend the CSUB BSN program and ended up staying. I graduated three years ago and new grads had no problems at all finding employment. My class had close to 75 grads, and at least half were hired by a single hospital. Here there are three CHW (Memorial, Mercy, Mercy Southwest) hospitals, San Joaquin Comm. Hospital, Bakersfield Heart Hospital, and a lot of Kaiser clinics. Good luck with your job search.

They will only hire new grads that did their clinicals there...I've been aplying to that hospital since May/2009 and nothing..so I gave them a call and that's what they responded..no outsiders basically errrrrrrr!

    emmanewgrad,

You can also check with Kern Medical Center. It is the county hospital, it is also a teaching hospital with a residency program. There are tons of students (nursing, NP, PA, RT, you name it). It is a great place to learn and grow as a nurse. It is also a trauma center, so lots of sick people and great experiences. Tons of doctors as you can imagine, and you don't have to put up with rude doctors the way you do in private hospitals. The doctors are always around, they sleep in the hospital so they do not mind if you call them in the middle of the night, if it is something to be concerned about they'll just walk over and take a look. Check it out.

I heard Washington will hire 9 new grads this time. The first interview will be panel interview, and then call ppl for the second interview. It's very competitive last time, don't know about this time. Good luck!!
