I was just wondering if any of you were from that area...:lol2:

There's some decent apartments on the SW side Sierra Ridge I believe, Walnut and Akers St. There's some condo type ones off of Akers and Whitendale that are 2 bedrooms or more, that are decent price.

My sister lives in Visalia but is not a nurse. She says the hospital does not have a good reputation. Apparently, Fresno has a better reputation.

My sister also moved from the Bay area after 10 years to Visalia, and the adjustment was difficult for her. Expect an adjustment period, as it is certainly not the Bay area!

Thank you very much for the quick response, NurseAnn! I'm looking to rent an apartment somewhere the hospital. I've have a boyfriend,no children, but he'll be staying in San Francisco (has job there and cannot move) live in Bay area, so it will be only me. I've been looking for a job for some time (about 6 months or so), and I'm very happy to be accepted in the ICU program. But to be honest, I'm little bit scared to move away from him and Bay area-I don't know anything about Visalia (I did research forums and web about the Visalia). People are so friendly though and I love that! Do you live in Visalia? Would you mind to tell me specific neighborhoood/streets(sorry! even with all the info I've gathered about the area, I'm kind of confused) around the hospital (about a mile or so) where would be safe to live for a single girl? down Tulare ave maybe? I'm heading to Visalia next week. Thank you again!!!

Hi Lananp :) After reading your posting, I feel like we are EXACTLY in the same boat! I was hired too and I have no where to start looking for a place to live. I've checked websites for several apartment complexes and rooms for rent, but I am so unfamiliar with the area I don't know what is a nice and safe place to live :( Im also from the Bay area (Palo Alto/ Mt. View) and Im also leaving my boyfriend who is currently working in SF. I am sooo excited to start my career though!!! I'll probably meet you on Feb 8th??? Sorry this posting reply to you may seem strange, but I can't believe how similar our situations are :)

Hi ReyaRN! What a coincidence, indeed! My friend works in Redwood city. How are you doing? I'm preparing for the move and I'm little bit excited, stressed, sad, and anxious at the same time. There are so many things to do and not enough time...When are going to Visalia (to sign the contract, or look for a place)? Where do think to live? Visalia has several new apartment complexes (SW and SE, if I'm not mistaken, very nice, they have websites with pictures), 2-4 miles from the hospital. Also, craigslist is a good resource. Because I don't and won't have car in the next couple of months or so, I'm looking for a place in close proximity to Kaweah Delta. There're not many available though. Take care!

I feel the same way! I'm heading to Visalia this weekend to check some places out but I am going into this blind :( I hope I find something. Safety and location are my priorities finding a place. I have a few that I have appts for and am looking into. Have you found a place yet?? I go on the 26th to sign all the paperwork. I do have a car, but if I live close enough to work riding my bike would be a great idea :)

Hi, I'm from Visalia. Most of Visalia is fairly safe. You want to avoid the north central/east side. If you have a place picked out and want an oppinion then message me. I'm happy to help. It must be scarry moving to a new area!

Hi! Thanks for the help. I'm looking into varioua areas that are close to the Visalia Mall, Sequoia Mall Shopping Center, and a little west of the Visalia Golf Club off of Demaree. I am scared to move to an unfamiliar area, but I am excited about starting my career :) I appreciate any input !

Of the three areas you mentioned probably the best area is the area off of Demeree, then then next best in near the Visalia Mall (but be carefull because there are some not great appt complexes near there, but there are some nice ones too.) The are near the Sequoia Mall isn't great, but not really bad.

Hi ReyaRN! How did your apartment search go? Did you like any place in particular? By the way, did you look anything around the hospital, if you don't mind asking? I'm thinking to find something around the hospital for the beginning, 3 or 6 mo rent, and after buying car to look further. Anyway, enjoy your weekend! Dine about SF is starting on 01/15, if you're interested; I'm not sure whether is offered in Bay area (it was before). We use the promotion to go to new or fancy restaurants where we normally cannot go:)

Thank you sooo much for the help. This was really useful when I went there yesterday to visit. I agree that the ones off of Demaree seem much more safe than the others, but all the places I looked at weren't bad at all. I was relieved :) Thank you again and hope you have a great week!

Hi Lananp the apartment search went really well. Luckily I had 4 great places I was looking in to that were no more than 2 miles away from the hospital and looked like safe areas. Craigslist is where I looked mostly because I don't want to live alone in the beginning, especially since I'm new to the area. So I found a 2 bed/2 bath condo that is fairly new and in a convenient and safe area. I did see an a few apt complexes that looked like they were right off the freeway, right down the street from the hospital. I think they were off Demaree and 198 fwy. Have you found a place yet?

I've never been to dine about SF. That seems fun. Is it only on the 15th?
