Hi All!
Anyone know of any good LVN/LPN schools in Nor Cal? I'm looking at Western Career College (because it's close to where I live), but it is really expensive (I mean REALLY EXPENSIVE!)
I'm at wits end here...the commuity colleges all have YAERS LONG waiting lists with 300 students waiting for the 30 spots available, and it seems that ONLY the private institutions have an open enrollment scheme.
Thanks for the advice!

How far north are you? There are some good programs in the San Jose/East Bay area and just south of there.

Sacramento City College has a great LVN program.
As do Sierra College and ARC, but I don't cherish having to "re-do" ALL of my pre-reqs simply because they are older than 7 years (a requirement by the Cal Nursing Board.) At least with WCC, it's all in one complete 18 month package!
Can you imagine how long it would take for me to gather up all the pre-reqs at a CC? I could be retired by then!
Thanks,
LOL! I know SCC and Sierra's program had a 7 year requirement, but I thought ARC was not. I know I did not apply for Sierra because they wanted me to retake English and I was not going to do that.
Good for you! I can't believe some of the @#$% they require people to take nowadays under the guise of them being "required" courses. Those same "required" courses seem to change from school to school.
Sounds like a good scam to force students to cough up extra money to me.
I believe the 7-year requirement was laid on ALL the schools by the CA-BON. If I have all my duckies in a row (which, at my age, isn't a given), I think the 7-yr. req. applies to the science classes (i.e. psych, anat/phys, nut., etc)
Ick. Just the thought of having to sit through ANOTHER Human Development and Family or Nutrition class gives me the willies! And a simple refresher on Anatomy/Phys would do fine for me, I'm an EMT. I already know how many bones are in to body...that's a number that won't ever change!
Thanks for letting me vent with you. These forums are like having 200,000 of my closest friends with shoulders to cry on 24/7. Neat!

7 year deal is for the bio sciences micro, human anatomy, physio.
I knew I heard that somewhere! Is that one laid down by the CA-BON, or is it decided by the school(s)?
I was talking about that in another thread, but I couldn't find the answer. The poster said her school took ALL the pre-rex, no matter the age.
I found that hard to believe. :smiley_ab
I found out about the 7 year rule for bio sciences from the Seirra college, Sac city, and American river college sites.
Update... I remember seeing the 7 year rule in the past , but I just checked all the above sites and couldn't find anything about the 7 year rule. Perhaps it has changed for the bio classes. I sure hope so.

Me again. It. Is. True.
Hi Wendy!
Sorry, I couldn't remember your tag-line. :trout: I still find it hard to believe that they don't have SOME restrictions on the science classes. Every other school has SOME sort of age requirements (and I've look at a ton of 'em!)
Care to tell us which school? :wink2:
