California Board of Registered Nursing now requires local NLE

What states in the US (at present) do not require a local license as part of the NCLEX application (before one can sit for the NCLEX exam)?

Your reply would be very much appreciated. God bless you!

*Any updates on whether or not California now requires a local license this 2008? How true is this?

andrea I dont know if we will be able to help you answer these questions on this board. I think you need to find someone in your area that is an immigration specialist...I am sure your not the 1st person who has encountered this problem...

Best of luck to you.

Since you DID take the Philippines nursing exam and passed, CA BON needs offical documentation sent from Philippines board of nursing to California.

Just because you did not physically receive a license does not mean you do not have one as interpreted by US boards.

ANYTIME a person takes a nursing licensing exam, boards in the the US need to know offical results of exam in order to process licensure request here.

since i didnt register, i enclosed with the application, my result of the board exam and the retake..the test score nd the certification. isnt that enough?

I think they have to recieve officially from your board of nursing. I know I had to get my UK BON to send confirmation of my license

Since you already made a letter of explanation and likewise enclosed something to prove that you passed other than an official copy or certification from PRC that you are licensed in PH but still they wanted you to send them your license then that only means that they have not accepted both your explanation and the document you have enclosed and would like you to send them what they have indicated you to send.

Since you took the re-take in June 2007 than you MUST register to PRC. There is no way around it. You will also need to register and send one to ICHP for your visa screen certification. The reason you took the June 2007 re-take was to fulfill CGFNS/ICHP's requirement to be given a Visa screen certification.

There are many reasons why they are being strict now but will not go into it anymore for this thread as there is really no reason that you cannot get registered to get a license even if you are not currently in PH.

There is still a way to register and get your license done by using a proxy and just giving him or her some sort of "Letter of Authority" coming from you. If you are in a State where there is a Philippine consulate then you may also visit them and ask how to go about it or just instruct a relative to go to PRC and ask instructions on how to go about it. It has been done before. So, there is really no reason that you cannot get your license and not being physically present in the country is not a problem, esp. since you did pass the re-take.

you have passed and a hard copy license should be in your hands. the fact that you informed them you took and passed it means you are to present a proof and the only valid proof of that is the unexpired prc license. no more, no less.

the only valid proof that you have taken and passed the NLE is the prc license.

the fact that you informed them that you have passed it, they will ask for the proof and thats only the license.no more no less.

This has nothing at all to do with immigration issues. It is strictly licensure and each BON, or BEN as we have in CA, can set their own requirements for licensure.

We actually see this happening all of the time, it is quite common on the International Forums.

Since you DID take the Philippines nursing exam and passed, CA BON needs offical documentation sent from Philippines board of nursing to California.

From the PRC, they actually need to have registration with them for things to be accepted here in the US.

I called the California BON last week and they were very friendly.

You do not need local license for California BON.

Actually it is now a requirement or why one has not taken it. Not wishing to work in the Philippines is no longer an accepted answer for them.

In the past, they accepted a letter that you were not planning to work in your country, but now with the retrogression and no visas being available for years, then one would like to have work experience before going to another country. And one is going to find it difficult to get hired if they have never worked as an RN and are going to need to get petitioned thru an employer.

You are in a different case as your fiancee is being petitioned by you and does not have to wait five years for a chance at a green card.

Hi! Is it true that Ohio no longer requires CES? I did not take the NLE, can I apply for nclex there? How long is processing time?

Also, I have applied to CA-BRN and they keep asking for a Philippine license. I faxed 2 explanations but to no avail. My application has a filing date of Dec 2007. Will my existing application with CA-BRN affect my future applications with other state?

Please help me. i waited for 6 months just to know that CA_BRN will not let issue me ATT because I have no local license.

I would really appreciate advice from anybody. I'm late for June 2008. I am pregnant and due in December so that is out for me also. I just wanna be licensed in the uS.

Many thanks to all!

You are applying for licensure as an RN, there is no way to apply for the NCLEX exam. And you will need to check out the website for the state that you are interested in. I am not aware of them not using the CES, which is only a credentials eval and not an exam.

I would take the time to get licensed in your country, you are looking at five years plus for a chance at a green card, and without a local license, then you are not able to work in your country or any other.

Your application with any other state will not affect a new one, but again, we are expecting that the US government is going to start to require the local license as they did in the past when the CGFNS exam was a requirement by all states, and now even require two years of experience because of the sudden increase in the number of students in your country and the number of visas for the US not being increased.

I would focus on writing the NLE when you can.

And to redranger, here is proof of what we have been stating. CA is no longer waiving the requirements if one is able to write the local exam there.

And you can see this by what this poster has written.

A verbal anything over the phone is not a binding contract.
