Anyone applying to calhoun community college spring 2015??
Also, does anyone know if they have a waiting list or something when people deny?
Hi northre234...I went to the information session before the application deadline and I was told by the department head that they do not move further on down the list if someone doesn't accept their seat (or whatever reason an accepted person might not actually start the program). I am not trying to be a downer, I just didn't want you to get your hopes up . She said that the reason is that they already have taken a higher than available number of seats. For example, let's say they have 100 seats available...they will take the highest point earner (let's say it's 170) and then they will count back from 100. So let's say that number 100 is me, Heather Meeks with 137 points. What they will do (to be fair) is take EVERYONE with 137 points-even if there are 15 people with 137 points...they all get in. She said that it has never happened in the past, but something serious would have to happen...like 20 or 30 people not be able to start classes...for them to ever move down on the list. She said it has never happened before. Like I said, not trying to be negative, I just wanted to offer the information as I heard it from the person in charge. I hope that you don't give up!
Okay, quick question. I looked at my transcripts from my other two schools. I looked at it wrong. After this semester I will have 160 points and can apply for Fall 2015. Do you all think that will be enough or should I retake the class I essentially got a B on? I went to Michigan State and their classes were different and I got a 3.5 in Physiology and a 4.0 in Anatomy. So it all transferred in differently because Calhoun has them as one class, step one and step two. So what I am asking is...... do you think 160 will get me in for the Fall semester? THANK YOU for your input. Best of luck to all of you.
From everything I've read and from everything I've heard I think 160 would almost guarantee you a fall admission unless something unnatural happens. I sure don't think 170 vs 160 would make a big difference, but you never know.
Ok I just want to know who has already registered. They told us not to in the letter, but I couldn't help myself and I know I'm not the only one. Someone make me feel better! If you have registered...who is doing clinicals on Thursday with me?
You were able to? I haven't thought about trying! I'm worried to risk it.
It said in the letter that we were supposed to receive an email with more info. Did anyone get it? I haven't yet. Also, can our physical and vaccines be from anywhere? Or a specific place with the school? I'm planning on calling and asking.
I am registered and taking clinical on Thursday. (I registered before I even got my letter)....and my schedule has not changed thus far (I check everyday)
I am going to Med east for vaccinations (they are way cheaper than my primary physician, as I am not insured).
160 is pretty much a guaranteed in...I had 162...a BIO 202 teacher told me anyone with 150+ should feel safe.
As far as moving down the list goes, I was told the same as MissMeeks, except that GPA is also a factor.
I tried to register, because I saw that some others had and I didn't want to miss out on the times and days I needed. I got kicked back saying I was not able to register yet. I mentioned it to one of the girls in the Nursing Dept on the phone, because I needed to register for an Algebra class and I didn't think I shouldn't be allowed since it is not a Nursing class. She just said that I need to wait until I have a meeting with a counselor, and get my medical paperwork signed off before I can register. Guess you guys just got lucky and slipped through the cracks. Wish I could have.
Does anyone know when they are going to send the email??
Yes, I called yesterday to ask about the email and vaccines/physical. The lady who answered (the one in our letter that we should call for questions) was very nice and explained that right now they are considering a third party vendor to handle the paperwork and such.
She said that the email will be sent out once they decide that, with the details of what to do with the paperwork we have.
Also, she said they would like for the vaccines and physical to be done by December 1. She said as well that the Hep B is a series of shots and that if they aren't completed by the 1st, to fill out the waiver for it to hand in. Once your Hep B is complete, you can let them know and they'll change it in the paperwork.
I signed up for Madison Fire Dept CPR class on Dec. 6th. The guy doing the class called me back and said that someone said we have to have it done by Dec. 1st. I tried to call Calhoun to verify but got no answer. He needs to know ASAP cause he said the only time he can do it earlier than the 6th is this weekend. Does anyone know if we have to have it by Dec. 1st? I would think we could do it after orientation, but I could be wrong.

I think so. From reading the past threads, I haven't seen someone with 160 NOT get accepted.
