Cal State East Bay acceptance letters for Fall 2010??

Published

My friend and I applied to the nursing program at Cal State East Bay for Fall 2010 and she received her conditional acceptance package to the nursing program today. I on the other hand have only received an email (last week) requesting transcripts for the nursing department even though my application went in before hers. On the website it says that throughout December they will be emailing out requests for transcripts, not acceptance packages, so I was just wondering if I should be worried. Has anybody else received an acceptance or conditional acceptance package?

Paganoid, is NURS 2002 (Success in Nursing) required? It's not listed as a requirement in the catalog but my friend said she had to take it.

I took the WST at San Jose State. Does anybody know if it will be sufficient for East Bay? It's not that it was difficult or anything but I don't really want to pay to take another standardized test. I think they are a little bit different too...The SJSU version has a multiple choice section in addition to the essay, so they may not be similar enough.

Success in Nursing (NURS-2002) is NOT a required course. It is another seminar course with faculty and there is review for exams, etc. The "A" students took the course, the "B" students like me considered it to fill out a full time schedule for grants. If you are only getting loans, 11 units is sufficient (loans require more than six units per quarter).

If you are an overachiever, it's a good class in the first quarter. It is offered only sporadically after the first quarter due to low enrollment.

Of course you will have to check with the Admissions office and the English Department, but the WST is good for all the CSU campuses. We had students in my class who had taken it elsewhere. You must be able to "prove" you took it. In other words, it must be in your transcripts somewhere.

The WST is an expensive PITA  but it does guarantee that all CSU graduates can communicate effectively in written English.

Good luck!

SCNurse87,

You should contact the testing office directly. I had taken the JEPET at SFSU and had to have the testing office there fax a confirmation that I had passes directly to CSU East Bay's testing Office. Is is worth the hassle to not have to take another writing exam.

Good luck.

I took WST type test at SDS and it satisfied the requirement. Basically, any test you took at another CSU campus is transferable, but you may need to jump thru a few hoops to make sure the admin of one school communicates to the admin of CSUEB and that CSUEB validates. I was locked out from registering for classes at one point so I ended up getting dropped out of my B6 elective class--it was not full and I was able to pick it back up. Also, your seat in the nursing classes are saved for you so you are not competing with others to register.

You will register for the nursing classes after orientation. Success in Nursing is just a formalized study group for theory and if you don't need the extra unit for financial aid you might be better off creating your own study group that is more flexible with regards to meeting time/place.

The first quarter will be your easiest because you will not have clinicals; the only hard class is patho so get ready to gear in for that one. Theory is not hard but the tests are wack, like..... "What color is dark blue? a) cerulean 2) cobalt 3) azure 4) cyan." It's all done to prep you for nclex style questions and to get used to critical thinking in ambiguous situations. Learning to take theory tests is a skill.

You will not start AM clinicals until Winter quarter--and those will only be twice a week. Like Pagonoid recommended, don't worry about it now, just enjoy your summer. You will be given info as you need it.

Know this--you are in a very good program and you will learn a lot from some awesome nurses. Level I starts off slow but the pace will get quicker before you know it--and Level II is an intense, blast of nursing boot-camp. Nursing school at CSUEB is a wild ride; strap in and get ready for a journey.

Many blessings!

No, not a nerd, unless you are staying home this weekend to watch Dr. Who and Star Trek on BBC-America like me. (when I really should be writing a 10-page APA paper and another set of essays and ...)

You are a first year student with all the excitement and curiosity that entails. Enjoy the feeling and have a great summer! Hard work is over the next hill but for now concentrate on getting your vaccinations and dual PPD tests and your entrance physical exam. The e-mail instructions should be forthcoming very soon.

Cheers!

I have heard that we learn to do basic care in the first qtr, like cleaning and moving patients.. etc. Is this true? If so, do we do this at a hospital or LTC, or somewhere else? How often will we be interacting with real patients, and does this begin right at the beginning of the quarter?

Has anyone started their titers yet? I'm starting mine tomorrow and I just want to know what to anticipate.

Are the last 4 sections of NURS2021 for the people going to the concord campus?
